Google Earth will not install in English

I cannot get Google Earth to install in English. Running Win 7. All my info in the Region/Language is set to US and English other than having a Thai keyboard installed. I've uninstalled the POS program, deleted all references to Google Earth from Progam Files and Users, ran CCleaner to delete any GE register entries, and then ran a search on the system drive to find an delete all reference to Google Earth that I could find. The only possible reference to my location would be my time zone setting which I cannot change, otherwise my VPN software will not connect to the US.

Then, VPNed to the US, and downloaded a version of Google Earth setup from a page that explicitly said "English". Reinstalled, launched, and sh*t, it's still in the Thai Language. I detest software company that insist on determining your location and language instead of allowing you to pick it from a drop-down list while installing.

Any suggestions? From day 1 I've considered Google Earth to be a poorly written, pig of a program that doesn't particularly run very well, and is flaky on a good day. But it is useful to be able to create 'placemarks' that I can send to other people, and it's faster that using Google Map which can really get bogged down if you go into Street view, and Street view can be useful.

Note: When I originally loaded the program many months ago, it was in English, but it decided sometime since the last time I used it, about a month ago, to suddenly change itself to Thai. I read some Thai, but not well enough to drill down through the Tools menu (I don't even know what word they are using for 'Tools', it's not 'Kruang') to get to the Language Preference tab. If I could get at least that far, I know the Thai words for English language.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. I don't particularly like the program, but is has it's uses and there ain't anything else out there like it that I know of. If there is, let me know. I run both Win7 and Linux.

Switching language in the app always gave me a bastardized version anyway. In your OS Region and language setting don't just select English format on one tab but go to the advanced tabs and select. Like location make it US etc. The downloads do all language but see your PC as still in Thai for some reason.

In past as example the google earth downloaded in Thai never really worked proper if switched to English - if you wanted the install to happen in real English in the first place then set the whole PC to English.

Just to add, I'm running Windows 10 64-bit English/Thai laptop and downloaded the Google Earth 'online installer' and it displays in English (language: system default).

Also forgot to include a tab a sequence (edited) Tools / Options... / General (tab): Language Settings

Running Win 7. All my info in the Region/Language is set to US and English other than having a Thai keyboard installed.

My only idea: check whether the "Non Unicode" setting is also English (non Thai).

Its a setting that is often overlooked and is system wide (not user specific).

Changing will require reboot.

Some programs derive their language from this setting.

This site explains it with screeenshots.

Don't be fooled by the "Japanese" setting,

Just set to "English (US)" if it happens to be "Thai (Thailand)".

My Region and Language setting were set up that way. There is nothing in those settings other than English and United States. No Thai references except for the keyboard and that shouldn't affect location data. But thanks.

Thanks but that's not it either. The only reference to language and location in the Region and Languages including this setting is set to English and United States, and even the default location is set to where my VPN ISP is located. There is simply nothing pointing to Thailand other than have a Thai keyboard installed and having the system time set to BKK time zone because my VPN software will not work otherwise.

Freaking Google. A language selection drop-down in the installer would solve all this nonsense. But the hubris of these Mega Companies. Amazing.

And you have already tried the obvious (post #2)?

Just switched my "Deutsch" (German) Google earth to "English (US)", then to Thai, Italian and back to German (restarting the program after the changes) without any problem.

it was in English, but it decided sometime since the last time I used it, about a month ago, to suddenly change itself to Thai.

After installation of Google Earth the language is set to "Systemvorgabe" (System default).

I bet that a change has been made in the Windows settings.

Use this info to download GE, reinstalled after cleaning all references from the previous install off my computer. The install language is English and the installer runs in English, all Regions and Languages set to US and English and launched newly installed app while VPNed to the US, annnnnnnd, the POS program defaults to Thai. I give up.

I only run this on one computer. I would not put this program on a computer I care about.

Nope. Didn't try the obvious because I'm more interested in why the this system, with all references to the Thai language, and all vestiges of previous installs of GE, keep coming up in Thai after installation. I'm compulsive, which is what made me a good system admin back prior to retiring from the IT world. And I'd still like to know why. Best I can come up with is they have a programmed their application in a non-traditional manner and determines location by some other means than utilizing the obviously correct data in the Regions and Languages sub-app. I wondering if they are using the time zone setting. Can't be the IP because its a US ISP IP that I'm using. Now that I know how to reset the POS app back to English, I might try installing it with the time zone set to Pacific Time and launch it without the VPN. If that doesn't work, the heck with it. I only use this program to create placemarks and street view when I'm trying to find something specific. I find Street View running in a browser to be just a dog slow, flaky program that has crashed the browsers on more than one of my computers.

Thanks much.
