3 farmers die after drinking strychnine poisoning rice wine in southern Cambodia


PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) -- Three farmers had died and two others fell ill after they drank strychnine poisoning rice wine Sunday night in a pagoda in southern Cambodia's Kandal province, according to a police report released Monday.

Body of "European" found in suitcase, Kep, Cambodia


The unidentified body of a male foreign national, stuffed into a suitcase with only the head sticking out, was found by local fishermen in Kep province yesterday morning after washing up on the side of a canal near a mangrove forest.

Princess Sirindhorn retires from military academy after over 30 years of teaching

BANGKOK: -- Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn officially retires today as a special lecturer at the Chulachomklao Military Academy after having taught there for almost 30 years.

A farewell ceremony attended by Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr will be held today at the academy in Nakhon Nayok province.

Yesterday all 11 battalions under the 2nd Infantry Division rehearsed the honourary retirement ceremony for Princess Sirindhorn prior to formal ceremony today.

Princess Sirindhorn has always had a great ambition to become a teacher and has been teaching at the military academy for the past 33 years.

She was first accepted into the teaching position at academy in 1980, where the Princess had taught the subjects of Thai, Modern History, and East Asian History.

The princess has helped to lay down curricular and teaching plans, as well as improve the contents of the subjects in order to modernize and update them and make them become more suitable with the modern society.

Before attending teaching courses, the Princess would prepare contents that she has full knowledge of through her best effort of studying them.

And with her talents, diligence, and kindness in teaching and giving knowledge to her students, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was promoted with the title of special commander of the academy in 2010, which made her students proud and happy.

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra today filed malfeasance and negligence of duty charges against the attorney-general and his three colleagues for what she claimed is unfair and unjustified inclusion of 60,000 pages of documents which she was never informed of and had chance to defend herself in the case in the Supreme Court which she was accused of malfeasance and corruption in the rice pledging scheme.
