October 1, 201510 yr Im thinking about buying a rowing machine. Do you think its a good way to get fit. I'm not a running kind of guy anymore. I would rather get on my mountain bike than sit in a gym on an exercise bike. The price quoted on promo at homepro is 26k. It a lot of coin but could be good for cardio fitness in the coming years. Im too lazy to travel to a gym... What do you think?
October 1, 201510 yr I think a home rowing machine is an excellent choice. For 26K in Thailand you're not going to get an excellent one, but I've got that level of rowing machine and I am very happy with it, and have been using it regularly for many years. You get aerobics and also some degree of overall strength training. A big caveat with rowers though is proper form and the risk of LOWER BACK injury. If you already have lower back pain, that could be a problem. Over the years I've had a home treadmill (a good one actually), elliptical machine, and an exercise bike. The rower is the best but I also like elliptical machines. Edited October 1, 201510 yr by Jingthing
October 1, 201510 yr Rowing machine = excellent workout. Personally I wouldn't buy a cheap machine though.

October 1, 201510 yr the more expensive brand at robinsons is 36k. Is it worth another 10k? Hard to say just based on retail price.I think a real high quality one would be closer to 100k in Thailand. Edited October 1, 201510 yr by Jingthing

You can get utility from a lower cost machine. Obviously not ideal though. I imported a concept model d for 55k or so (when the dollar was lower). Still serves me quite good. But I see its a big investment. I have a lot of quality gym equipment and it has cost me. However you have to look at it as a long term investment. A rower will almost never break and does not require much maintenance. However you have to be sure if you are the right person for a home gym. There are countless of machines gathering dust. In my 8 years here I have always used my home gym and I think that at 30k per year or so I am now break even with all the stuff I bought (maybe not)

If you are not sure about it, maybe you could go to a gym that has one and get a one day pass. I think that rowing machines are a great overall body workout and dont have the pounding of running, for example.
