My new MBpro sometimes asks for 2 passwords at login

Featured Replies

I recently purchased the new 15 in MBP with retina. On day one the guy at the shop recommended that I install the apple updates of the software. I did this and sometimes when I power on the laptop it goes to the login screen. I punch in the password (with the correct pw) and it seems to progress with booting up and then it asks for the password again. Its not caused by incorrect input of the password.

Also, I installed the Apple...word, excel and PP and after logging in the Word application opens by itself. In the top left corner I click on the red icon to close the app and after doing this a blank word doc is displayed. Should I re-install that software?

thanks

Seems to be an odd case if it is randomly asking your for password, as opposed to each time. Check your System Preferences pane, then go to Users and Groups. Check if there are more than one user there. Under your own name, go to Login Items, and you will see the applications that are set to automatically start up when you log on. The word application will likely be listed in there - if it is, and there is a check mark beside it, uncheck it and it should no longer start up when you log in. (Just going from memory here, I don't have MS Office on this machine). Other spot would be in the task bar where you can right click on the app and you will see "options" and see if there is a check mark beside "open at log in". Uncheck there if you do not want the app to open when you log in.
