Walking Street to be given drainage system upgrade

PATTAYA:--Pattaya plans to upgrade Walking Street’s drainage system this month to prevent more of the type of flooding that occurred during tropical depression Vamco.

Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay inspected the existing system Sept. 24 and outlined ways the city can expand pipes linking sewers to the sea.

Verawat said it was clear the runoff from the Sept. 14-18 storm had clogged sewers. He assigned the Sanitation Engineering Department to tackle the issue by expanding the sewer system to make drainage more effective.

Thats all it takes.... A photo op., some propaganda speech and a wave of the wand. Consider it done. In true Thai reactionary style.

From one meter to three meter pipes. Will be interesting to see the work on this. Anyone know the weight load a 3 meter sewer pipe can handle on top of it? I can see it now, a songthaew with 18 large farangs on the back collapsing into the street.....
