New Army chief to handle NCPO peacekeeping
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order is going to have a structural reshuffle, with the new Army chief becoming its secretary-general and thus making him head of the junta's peacekeeping force.

When asked yesterday if Army commander-in-chief General Theerachai Nakawanich would be appointed to look after the junta's peace and order task force, NCPO vice leader General Prawit Wongsuwan replied: "We'll have to do it, if it will make things fast and straight to the point."

Pravit, the defence minister and a deputy prime minister, is confident Theerachai can control future situations.

"Don't ask about it. I knew him even before you were born," he said.

"Situations are also settling now. The NCPO can take care of that."

He also said he did not need to transfer policies to newly appointed military chiefs because they had advanced knowledge in organisational policies.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the NCPO chief, confirmed that Theerachai would take up the junta's secretary-general post.
