In all seriousness there should be some kind of 911 number for those who are so depressed and thinking of taking their own life. This is not a joking matter. It seems suicides happen every two weeks in Pattaya-- we all know the reasons: financial; broken heart; poor health; aging... Most "farangs" come here alone so there is no support system of family or even true friends to get emotional support, whereas back in our home countries we not only have family or friends but professional counselors that can re-direct our moments of depression. (If I my profession was in psychology this would be a great place to retire and open up a part time office.)

By the same token, I wonder what farang would be interested in an $825,000 house such as the one in the ad here. I can get the equivalent for less money in many places in the U.S. Why would I want to pay that much to live in Thailand when i can't even have it in my name?

When farangs are still alive you always see them walking around with their female or even male companions.

When they fall off buildings or die in the room the Thai has usually vanished. Where do they go ? Do the Thai hookers return at a later date with a story for the cops ?

Thai thieves get 5 years prison time for stealing from shops or several months for killing someones cat. How many Thais have gone to prison for killing a farang over the past 20 years? Not many.

Do they still have that Issan bus terminal tucked away in Sth pattaya where issan /korat girls and boys can do a quick getaway?

I would never stay in a condo or house in Pattaya.

The last time i was in Pattaya beach road was littered with old foreign men and katoeys. I didnt see a single female except tourists.

If you want to skydive in Thailand Pattaya is the place to be.

RIP... how do you fall from a balcony? Thought they had railings to prevent this. I guess one could be pushed or jump. A shame such a young a

Does it not seem strange that balcony jumping is a tradition among foreigners in Pattaya. It seems to me. I have lived in 15 countries, most in Asia ith tall apartments never had this many people.... What was the total for 2014 and the total for 2015. Maybe we need to introduce bungee jumping.... instead. I have my suspicions.... lady boy on the run....hmmm good friend eh....

Why would a gay man be interested in a lady boy? The article clearly says boyfriend.

I agree many railings here are dangerously low, but View Talay are infact built extreamly high, and would be imposiible to just fall over, unless of course you were 9 feet tall.

It's true that the VT railings are quite high and so seem fairly safe, but I remember a few years ago that a Russian in another VT building with the same railings apparently slipped in his own vomit and fell over to his death.

The railings in some older buildings dont even come up to the top of my thigh, though I suppose they would be safe enough for most Thais.

Not just balconies there isn a walkway overpass at IT Square ,Laksi the railings don't even come up to my waist. When I use it I walk in middle of the walkway as being near the railing looking at traffic going by below is a little unsetteling. Would be no doubt in my mind that if I tripped or got dizzy that would be it.

Most farangs here are all Talk and No Show...Why don't you guys start a Help Line with Thai Visa taking a lead. We could even do a Kick Starter campaign to get going.

I see many farangs coming to Thailand because they have lost all Hope back home.

You don't see Indians jumping off even when they are the least wanted tourist in Pattaya with beer and girls sharing, because most Indians don't have much to loose as they have strong family and friends back home, they could come back next time.

Also, In Pattaya, Indians have Gurudwara/Temple where you could get free food called Langar and Stay in the premises if you have lost all.

You won't see any Indian joining the flying club anytime soon, he would just go to the Sikh Temple and get all Help.

Please go here if you have no where to go and have lost all hope - They will help you as much as possible.

I agree with you Toenail that there should be an emergency phone number in Pattaya that provides support for farangs with serious emotional problems. It could be similar to Lifeline in Australia which provides a 24-hour contact support/ suicide intervention service for those experiencing an emotional crisis. I had the privilege of working as a TC (telephone counsellor) for that service for 12 years and well-know the demand that is always out there.

But no good just talking about it. Could someone put their hand up and call a meeting seeking interest from the falang community?. From there steps could be taken to seek a psychologist/professional counsellor who would give some time to advising on the setting up of such a structure and map out an appropriate training program. From there, volunteer workers could be sought.

If I lived in Pattaya, I would become involved, but the distance from my home in Nongkhai could make that a little difficult.

Whatever. I'd love to see some constructive feedback!.

Don't know about VT6, but I have visited two mates' condos with ridiculously low railings.

Combined with being fairly narrow and having a step (down) from the room there IS a chance of accident in these buildings.

If I were to rent such a condo I would surely do something about it (detachable).

The police are unsure about the reason for his fall.

That`s it then, nothing to see here, case closed, move on please.

No, no, no...they must stamp it as a suicide and then the can move on.

Sometime I am really afraid by the lack of height of some railings, never saw that in another country, not long ago in a hotel the window sill's height on the sixth floor was well under my navel I for sure did not dare open this window sad.png

On some balconies in LOS better no to be even slightly inebriate or sleepyhead or simply feel bad!

There is. When my friend and uncle died 2 months ago i went to hospital because i had a panic attack with arhytmia (bunch of pvc/pac) along with sinus tachycardia and was freaking out. I told the doctor what was going on and he gave me a hot line number for people with psychologic problems. I lost it though... but i know for sure they have one

Thailand must have the most slippery balconies in the world along with low railings, far too may Farangs have these unfortunate accidents and partners are usually hard to find

I have been counting since January 1 this year. Now this is # 16 that has died due to " faulty railings" in condos. Or suicide.

Don't you think its time to really do a proper police investigation to fine out why so many Falang are falling from condos.

Its will because a national pass time if this continues. Even in cities like New York with a big population there was

only 1 recorded balcony suicide last year.

Police attitude " oh another falang victom well lets put it down to suicide" .

Tha victom "well lets investigate the probable murder"

One of the saddest things about this for those that never knew Mr Ortiz is that we will hear no more , did the bf leave as Mr Ortiz' depression was getting to him or did Mr Ortiz say " Go on holiday for a week here is some cash see you soon " Only thing you can be sure of is in the next week or two another ferlung will jump to his conclusion in Pattaya.

I feel for the poor guy who died, whatever the cause of death was. Feel lots of sympathy for him and his family, and even more for some of the cretins who post low class comments on these topics.

Why is it always VT6?

That building is such rubbish, staid there once and never again. Walking down the hallways between all the units can make one depressed. Then theres guys with the door open because they can't afford the AC and are laying in their beds all day, basically waiting to die. No saint family person would bother to stay there or take their family for a holiday in one of those units. It's just a monger hot spot, nothing else.

Almost certain the guy jumped on his own. Who would want to live a life in VT6 in Pattaya? Takes a special kind of person to bear all the shit thats going on there...

Why they not was there?

If someone know if there have bean a crime then it must be them,

Start up a help line with Thai visa??

You must be joking Have you not seen the way people who post help threads get treated?

Most the time they get called troll, then some smartarze attacks them, theb crowd comes in for the kill.

A guy in a pub once told me.." dont read Thaivisa everyday- it will drive you nuts and make you overly negative about everything Thai"

Thaivisa is the last place id direct anyone who had a negative mindset/depression

But seriously, such a thread would have to be locked; to keep all the a-holes away, with specialised mods only answering.

Ib any case, i dont think the owners would consider it a worthwhile or viable prospect.

any condo above 3 stories high should have netting from the floor to the roof or maybe they should just supply parachutes to all the farangs that like to take a flying leap ,how come we never here about any thais taking the leap of faith ,makes us all wonder

If anyone thinks that all the balcony hang gliding in Pattaya is due to suicide then you are naïve to say the least.I have lived in places like Hillbrow in Johannesburg and other high density condominium/apartment city areas(at one time Hillbrow was the most densely populated square mile on the planet)and nowhere else is there the lemming -like balcony leaping like Pattaya.Statistically it is all wrong.....the RTP are covering up a lot of these incidents to avoid "tourism failure".It has been going on for decades....like the jet ski scams.

....so much hearsay about 'medical conditions'.....almost medieval....

You're so right. A large percentage of modern adults have some kind of chronic medical condition that is well controlled by daily medication. It would be bad if they weren't taking the medication though. Thai "press" does that kind of thing all the time ... suggesting taking any kind of daily medication must explain a death.

Now as we're dealing with a gay man, let's not be naive, many people will read that as a hint he had Aids. So if he did, and they are going to drop the medication bomb, why not just say it outright because you can certainly tell by the type of medication. So they leave so many people thinking there might be an Aids connection ... better say nothing or say everything than what they actually DID say.

A question I have about the deceased is that the article says he lived here and being that he was a younger man, what was his activity in Thailand justifying his legally living here ... was he working locally or did he have visa issues which of course can be very stressful.

To the friends and relatives of Mr. Ortiz, if you suspect there may have been foul play, and you want justice, you may want to seek local advice about that. (Hint: you're not in KANSAS anymore.) A death a gay foreigner that be can be easily labeled a "suicide" is not going to normally be of much interest in pursuing.
