Days Remaining, Changing TR to B

Featured Replies

Previously, the rule has been that you need 15 days remaining, either on your 30 day exemption or 60 day TR visa, in order to change to a 'B'; this is in Bangkok BTW.

I've just started a new job & the school told me that the days remaining needed has increased. The experience from 2 of their teachers:

1. A few months ago, a teacher was told that he needed 30 days remaining (at CW).

2. Last week, a teacher was told that they needed 45 days remaining (at CW).

Confusion all round & not only does this mean that the 30 day exemption option has fell by the wayside but leaves it a bit tight even with a TR visa.

An recent reports?

It appears to be confusion between applying for a non immigrant visa and an extension of stay.

You must have 15 days reaming on your entry to apply for a non immigrant visa.

You can apply for an extension of stay during the last 30 or 45 days of your current permit to stay.

I'm not sure as this is 2nd or 3rd hand information. Also this is for a B for a teacher, at CW in Bangkok. The school did specify that they were referring to changing a TR to a B.

I have seen no reports of the 15 days being increased to 30 days.

Hello,

Last year my Filipino colleague converted his visa-exempt entry

into a Non-B for teaching at CW when he had only 14 days left

on his passport. (He went to Poipet for a border run first and then

went straight to CW.)

Last January I visited the local office of MoE to pick up some

documents on my way to CW, when I was told that I'd need

at least 21 days left on my passport, so I gave up doing my

visa at CW and went straight back to my school where the

staff had to do the new documents addressed to the Thai

Embassy in Laos and then left for Vientiane.

It'd be best for you to have your school staff call CW and

inquire about it.

The 21 day rule was lowered to 15 days several years ago.

So the local office of MoE didn't know this fact, didn't they?

Thank you for your info.
