Jacaranda Trees

Featured Replies

Does any kind person have information on Jacaranda (don sidtrang) trees?

I believe there are several varieties. Can anyone recommend a colourful jacaranda that doesn't grow too high - maybe about 6 or 7 metres? And do they grow fast?

Many thanks.

This might help a bit, and I could get some seed next month in Australia. However, could be a nursery around the city here has young trees which might be of more use.

I'll be back just in time to catch them flowering, which is a wonderful sight each year.

Sorry I can not be more informative but there is a huge nursery out Mae Jo way almost to the collage. All I remember was that you had to turn right to get to it coming from he super highway. It was way out past three stop lights. I believe the college out that way has a very big agricultural program.

Good luck the trees look magnificent. The color reminds me of Lilac bushes back home.

There are a couple of trees in our Moobhan, I even bought some Jacaranda

seeds once, but the never sprouted.at the same time I bought 10 seeds of

African wisteria tree Bolusanthus speciosus, which looks something like a

Jacaranda out o the 10 seeds got one tree, which I am nurturing very carefully,

its over a couple of meters high,so hopefully one year I will see it in bloom.

This is an interesting site. Lots of ideas on getting seedlings to grow.

I had thought they might be tricky like native Australian seeds which require to be pre-treated with smoke. The Jacarandas seem much more user friendly.

you've got a good choice of Youtube material here.

Good luck.

I bought Jacaranda trees for 20-50 baht per one, it still small (50 cm. high) and did not grow very quick, you can have look at Mae Rim, in front of Army camp (the last one when go to Mae Rim on the main road) but I think that time I bought it all, may be they have more.

don't know of any different species that do not grow higher than 6 - 7 metres. They reach a height of approx 40 - 50 feet, and grow up to 3 - 4 feet a year (under the right circumstances). I just bought a tree of 9 feet high in Phu Rua, and paid 600 baht for it. Cannot wait for it to grow to its full size....., such beautiful trees they are!
