Actually our experience has been very positive using government hospital nurse service when we required some years ago - they have set schedules for doing such during off-time and set rates.

If I understand your post correctly, you want special duty nursing while the baby is in the hospital -- in which case you can only use a nurse at that hospital. There is no reason to think that a private duty nurse from a government hospital would be disinterested. And if you are not satisfied with the nurse, you can change to another one.

Note too that initially after the surgery the baby will be in an ICU where it is neither possible nor necessary to have a private duty nurse. After that if you opt for a special private room (advisable in terms of the family being able to stay in the room and general comfort) the nurse:patient ratio will be much better than usual, so you might not even need the private duty nurse.

Once out of the hospital, you can also get a nurse through a private hospital but it will cost more than 3 times as much. I'm not sure though that the baby will really need that much once out of hospital.

the child is in icu and is expected to be there for perhaps ten days total. the icu is excellent. the hospital, a government hospital saved the childs life. i would not think the child would still be alive if the surgery had taken place at most prestigious private hospitals.

we have been in icu before earlier this month, as well as in a private room. on many shifts -- think nighttimes, especially weekends, when my baby is awake and sick, almost all the nurses were -- i will not complete this sentence.

the baby is extremely ill, and is likely to require 247 care for quite a while. hence the need for help.

Understood. Still suggest getting a private duty nurse through the hospital. She will know that she is hired by you, and has to satisfy you.

Perhaps when you talk to the nursing office stress that you want a nurse who will remain awake at night i.e. not one who has already worked the day shift the prior day. Sometimes there are nurses who have retired from government service still wanting occasional work (the retirement age is not that old).
