Public Health Ministry checks on healthy vegetarian food

BANGKOK, 12 October 2015 (NNT)-The Public Health Ministry has advised people participating in the vegetarian festival to adopt four simple principles for a healthier life.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Sophon Mekthon has expressed his concerns over the suitability of vegetarian food available in the market as most dishes are either made with flour or contain high sugar and salt content.

The vegetarian festival begins tomorrow. Dr. Sophon said people with diabetes and hypertension should be extra careful when making their food purchases, to stay healthy during the festival.

The simple rules for a healthy vegetarian meal include choosing to eat only fresh and clean vegetables and fruit, making sure there is no meat in the dish and there is only low salt and sugar content.

Several vendors have been ordered to stop selling their vegetarian food after the Department of Medical Science and the Food and Drug Administration found traces of animal DNA in the food.

The two organizations have also taken legal action against them for making false claims to consumers.

I have always said Thai Food of any description is overloaded with Sugar or Salt or even Soy Sauce....

As for Drinks, that's the same , "Syrup"...... Which is just watery sugar.....

Glad he has noticed.....

Last time Jay food was on offer, most street vendors started selling in the early AM, and the unsold remains were still on offer in PM!

Moral is, buy early.

What's MPH's view on that?
