PHUKET: -- The grand opening of the B600-million Dibuk Hospital on Chao Fa West Rd in Wichit last Thursday (Oct 8) marked the medical facility’s formal transition from a clinic to a hospital as recognised by the Ministry of Health.

The official opening last week marked the opening of Phuket’s third major private hospital, which is to offer a full range of “secondary services”. The hospital opened quietly in September last year, offering outpatient services and limited inpatient services. It has been certified as a 29-bed hospital with service expansion planned for the future to eventually provide 224 beds.

Current medical services include internal medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, Ear, Nose and Throat, health checkups, and 24-hour emergency service.

“Dibuk Hosital is a brand-new hospital in Phuket run under Bangkok Hospital Phuket. Its unique circular structure is meant to maximize utility and functionality both inside and outside the buildings, with energy-saving and green concerns,” said Dr Kongkiat Kespechara, Managing Director of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS).

“The hospital is situated in the areas that used to be tin mines, Phuket’s key economic activity in the old days. To reflect Phuket’s rich history of the century old tin mine industry, our new hospital was named ‘Dibuk’ [the Thai word for tin].

Although BDMS owns and operates all three major hospitals in Phuket – Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Phuket International Hospital and now Dibuk Hospital – the new facility aims to break new ground in quality medical services and sleek service flow at a reasonable price, Dr Kongkiat said.

“Since its very conception, a panel of specialists/stakeholders – including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, hospital staff, architects, engineers – joined forces to make it truly their dream hospital, complete with industry-leading sleek physical design, streamlined service flow, and effective energy and resources management. It serves as a hospital offering secondary care to all Phuket residents up to medical standards at a greater value – a new pride of Phuket,” he said.

“Aimed at serving as a new unique choice of healthcare, Dibuk Hospital manoeuvres service delivery in such a way that makes the most of building structures through synergising service units across a 360-degree spectrum.

Standby for the cost of private medical care in Phuket to shoot up even higher, with BDMS now having a 100% monopoly!

Why 'now', they have been operating this hospital for over a year already.

BTW, mission is still there, plus afaik Phuket international has not changed its prices since the take over.

You're right about mission being private. But you can hardly put them in the same league as the others, in terms of resources and facilities. The Phuket International takeover is quite recent and I'm waiting for the day where they do a little facelift (new lobby furniture, a paint job perhaps), to justify raising the prices to those of the others.

I would be very happy if I were wrong, of course.

I don't see a reason to increase prices at international, many companies have different brands competing with different brands and prices. We'll see, but still no connection to the OP.

Vachira has some pretty good surgeons working their part time. If you need a surgery and can get one of them it will be cheap as hell (the top priced private rooms are super nice)

Obviously they are terrible for something small, but those small visits should be included in any cheap insurance package at bkk/international

Dibuk has cheaper prices but fewer staff and facilities than its sister hospitals. It's not offering the same so there's no reason prices should change.

It does, however, act as a feeder for Bangkok Hospital; if they can't do it at Dibuk you'll be referred and even driven there by ambulance if you happen to have insurance.

I agree. I was taken aback at the sight of the Mission on my lone visit there. And the pricing. Just one small step up from what the locals fondly call The Slaughterhouse, aka Vachira.

I was taken aback at the chaos in Mission Hospital last time I thought about having a medical/blood test there. Nowhere to park the car, reception just full of people (worse than the Vachira), I walked out and never have been back. Back to the Phuket Internation and tranquility/service.

Badly signed posted on the Road, you are just driving along and then its upon you, impossible to slow down or break as there is someone driving so close to you....,

When i went i suggested they put up a Large Sign so its distinguishable from the Road, but the reply i got was, ''Not a good idea"' ???

Apart from that it was OK...

but i believe there will be a new Hospital built in ''Rawai'' which will be better ..., for my location..

Only for my yearly blood check i go to Mission. I enjoy the atmosphere there. It's a bit like HKT was 20 years ago.

BPI price for the test 1200THB. Mission 180THB but be there around midday not in the morning. Then not many people, no parking problems, see no doctor go to the nurses and then directly to the lab. So i'm in and out in about 10 min. Other big checks i do at BPI.

Maybe you are thinking of the small hospital planned in Chalong near the police station ?

Do you mean the hospital which was supposed to be built there but now only a clinic which is finished but not open. Almost looks like it was built off a standard police station plan.

Are you sure about that? AFAIK there will be a new (OrBorJor) hospital build on the opposite side of the road from Homepro Chalong. Has that been cancelled?

No ... not the clinic. It's a 30 (?) bedroom government hospital. Don't think the building even started construction as yet.

So why build a clinic when a hospital is due to be built? Can you imagine the uproar from the market stall holders when they have to leave. A road through there would help towards not having to build an underpass. Enough room for a hospital & a road.
