BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will hire a consultant for the Bt14-billion "Chao Phraya Landmark" roadway and recreational area project this month, city deputy spokesperson Benchasai Keeyapaj said yesterday.

After the project design is completed in January, the construction budget could be proposed in 2017, she said.

Speaking after a meeting of city executives yesterday, Benchasai also reported the findings of a September 13 survey of residents in the Mittakham-Ratchapha Tabtim Ruamjai communities in Dusit district. Most residents agreed with the project, she said, but wanted a review of some parts, such as public participation and remedial measures like aid provided to help relocate residents and finding a new location for them.

MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the city governor, urged related agencies to proceed with thoroughness in all steps. He said opinions should be gauged regularly as the project was sensitive; they should also familiarise themselves with laws to prevent potential issues.
