Hello,

I entered Thailand with a tourist stamp on arrival (30 days stamp) which I got extended for another 30 days at the immigration here in Bangkok.
I would like to know if I can go out of the country (Malaysia, Cambodia or else) and re enter and get another tourist stamp on arrival for 30 days, and then extend it again at the immigration for another 30 days?
Thank you a lot!!

If you go by air, there is no problem.

Some land borders have problem with visa runners,

Better tell us were you are planning to do the border run..

There is no 30 day "tourist" stamp only 30 day "visa exempt entries"

The immigration authorities are actively discouraging the abuse of visa exempt entries so if you wish to stay longer you should obtain a tourist visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate in a nearby country.

Thanks for the prompt answer !

I am German. I will explain to you :

- I am working in Africa on a 3 months rotation. I am coming often in Thailand ( already have 4 stamps for this year !) and plan to visit some neighboring countries in Thailand so this is why I am expecting more stamps !

All the travels will be done by air.

Do you know if we can have an unlimited amount on stamp on a yearly basis ?

Immigration will usually start asking questions after 6 or more visa exemptions at least they did with me,if you can satisfy to them by way of a letter or work permit from your employer in Africa you should have no issues in the future.

To have such financial and employment history to hand will help you to explain any problems you may encounter in the future when you may be flagged on the system.

When you have about six visa exempt stamps expect to be questioned by an Immigration Officer who will want to know what you are doing in Thailand.

Be prepared with evidence of being employed overseas and ensure you have 20,000 Bht (or equivalent) in cash when entering the country.

The most common reasons for refusing entry are

1. Suspicion of illegal working and

2.Not having sufficient financial resource.

Satisfy the Officer on both counts and you will likely not be questioned again.

  • There is no set limit.
  • The immigration system is flagging people with 6+ entries for questioning about what you are doing in Thailand.
  • If they believe you are working here you might be refused entry (unlikely) or warned to get a visa for your next visit.
  • If refused entry you could fly to any country.
  • Make sure you carry a minimum of 10k baht cash and have an outbound booked flight within 30 days.
  • Also having evidence of your employment is a good idea incase of questioning.
  • A 6 month multi entry tourist visa is being launched in November. It would be wise to consider that in the future.

If you do leave the country it may help that you stay out for a few days to give you the appearance of being a genuine 'tourist." It may also help that when dealing with the border crossing you are dressed respectfully, meaning a shirt with a collar and long pants. Oh, and no spandex laugh.png , see the thread about dress code.
