Pacific Cross Health insurance advice on how to to reduce your premiums.

In recent years the cost of healthcare and health insurance costs have been rising at a faster rate than incomes. A regular complaint from people is they haven’t made a claim on their health insurance and yet they are facing percentage premium increases in double digits.

Inflation is not the only influencing factor. Age is a significant risk factor. Age-related diseases are illnesses and conditions that occur more frequently in people as they get older. How can we minimize the costs impact when the underlying issues – inflation and age related premiums – are not going to go away?

Health costs vary significantly across the world. The insurance companies recognize this by having different premiums for different geographic areas of cover based on their experience of health costs in these regions.

There are health insurance providers that are starting to recognize different areas of cover within one geographic region. This differentiates between the more expensive countries like Singapore and China, for example, and for those countries, like Thailand, where the medical costs are still regarded by the insurer as being reasonable. Your premium will be based on where you are resident, but will provide coverage world wide.

Protecting ourselves against financial disaster is the real purpose of taking out any insurance policy. The key thing is to make sure you have appropriate cover for anything that is likely to have a serious financial impact – for example serious motor accidents, heart attacks and cancer treatment.

How can I reduce the cost of my health insurance premiums? Consider the following…

As you get older it may be preferable to include a larger “pay up front” amount that you can afford, meaning you can be covered for more costly situations at a cheaper price.

You can purchase insurance for routine coverage, dental and optical care, as well as things like maternity. These are very nice to have, and routine treatment is still relatively affordable in Thailand. However, the inclusion of a modest amount of routine outpatient and dental cover significantly increase your premium. For example, the highest claims at present are for common colds and diarrhea. Hospitals charge a premium of drugs which would adversely affect your premium. Therefore consider whether outpatient cover is necessary, but also check your policy on whether aftercare is provided after hospitalization for a serious illness.

Before making any decisions about anything as important as your health, you really should get some reliable independent advice. Contact Pacific Cross Healthcare Insurance. It doesn’t cost anymore if you do, but it could cost you a whole lot more if you don’t.
