I am not sure if they are really thirsty, when I drive a bike I don't care too much about petrol usage.

If petrol use would be a concern you are better off with a Honda Dream instead of a 500cc RE I think?

This will not be my first RE, in Holland I owned a '93 Enfield Bullet 500 in a similar color scheme.

They are nice but thirsty brutes

thirsty ? according to this website 1:25 to 1:29 liter to km http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/royal_enfield/classic_500

Brutes ? the 500 produces a whopping 29hp......

Compare the earlier pre EPA carb model's engine bottom end to the newer FI unit construction look. Earlier model looks so much better. I suppose that's called "progress".

I am basng my comment on real Enfields. If hey have motored and carbed them hey are not as far as I am concerned Royal Enfields.

Try starting a real one on a cold morning in Darjeeling and you will call them more than brutes.

Harry, I have owned a Velocette 500 Venom (to Clubman specs), a Norton ES2 and a BSA A65L in the past.
Starting a RE 500 is easy compared to the Velo! Plus the new RE will come with elektric starter..... tongue.png

Sorry for the bad picture of the Velo, it's a photo of a print.

Not bad fuel economy. How big are their fuel tanks? :)

LOL. Re pinstripe hand lining of petrol tanks; reminds me of Monty Python's Life of Brian scene with "well, what have the Romans ever given us?".

-

Apart from Enfield and Triumph, who still lines a tank by hand...

Hopefully here, having my t100c tank repainted as per the original colour scheme and that includes gold pin stripes each side of the purple/silver. If not,I'll do it myself, used to be a sprayer. Assuming I'm not shaking too much ;-)

3 x BSA singles, two sidevalves, one OHV, north of Chiang Rai.

Velocette spotted south of Uttaradit. Full plate and current road tax. He was with a group of mainly Triumph pre unit twins (rigid and s/arm) riding back to BKK. They were'nt hanging about either. A65 also amongst them.

Royal Enfield's official agent in Thailand is:

Klongton Nua, Wattana,

Bangkok 10110

Phone 02-381 8811

E-mail: [email protected]

EXCELLENT - thanks brake034

First class response to my questions re. timeliness, but sad news:

* Total on-the-road cost (bike, insurance and rego) for the Classic is now 230,000

* Delivery in June 2016 if ordered in December

* Sidecars not available as they are 'illegal' in Thailand [<deleted>!!!!! unbelievable professional build Vs the ones now in vogue.....]

At that price, the Stallion is looking much better
