visa's for British/ Thai children

Featured Replies

I'm looking for some advice re visas for children. Normally when visiting Thailand I apply for the 3 month visa from the UK and then apply for the 1 year non- immigrant O at krabi immigration when I'm there (married to Thai national). My eldest daughter has British and Thai passports so that's no problem, but I can't seem to find any info for my youngest. She is just over a year old and is not registered as Thai. Both parents need to be present to register her at the embassy in London and her dad's in Thailand! Can she apply for the same visa as me - 3 month to get in to Thailand and a non O when we are there, or does she need a Thai passport, and if so is this something I can apply for when we are in Thailand even though she is over a year now and born in the UK? I have been told that under 5's do not need visas anyway but cannot see this information written anywhere online...

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

You should obtain a single entry "O" visa based on marriage prior to leaving the UK.

The youngest child should be able to be given a single entry "O" visa as a dependent of you/her father.

I presume you intend applying for an extension of stay based on being married or a dependent of your husband.

One year "O" visas will not be available from Krabi immigration.

Yes, sorry, I didn't explain that very well! I apply for the O visa for 3 months and then extend for one year at Krabi.. So my daughter will be able to do the same, she qualifies for an O visa and can also extend for a year once we are there?

She can get a one year extension of stay as a returning Thai national. Only proof that one of her parents is Thai is needed.

She can also get a non-o visa on the same basis.

Once here you should try to get her Thai birth certificate by applying for it at consular affairs department in Bangkok. They will forward the application to the embassy in London.
