Changing new Modem Router

Featured Replies

My old Modem Router is giving problems. This Router was supplied by TOT many years ago.

Can I buy a new Modem Router and fix it myself. A different brand.

Do I have to do some configurations or do some adjustments to make it working.

And do I have to inform TOT about the new Router ?

Please kindly advice. Much appreciated. Thanking you all in advance.

As long as you get the same type of modem (ADSL or CABLE) there are only a few settings and in the case of ADSL (phone line) it is normally automatic (you select TOT and it sets up for them) - so all you really need to input would be your user name and password (and if using wifi how you want that set up).

Edit: problems are often due to phone line needing maintenance rather than the modem - a call to ToT might have someone come to check and clean any dirty connections and that could make a big difference.

Also, if the TOT supplied modem/router is a TP-Link, it has a lifetime warranty (though the manufacturer).

With ADSL service, most any ADSL2+ device purchased in Thailand (or 'compatible' hardware purchased abroad) will work. But you will need to configure the device properly with appropriate VPI/VCI and account Name Password data. TOT should be able to provide you with this data if you no longer have it.

Note that my TOT ADSL service had issues that I believed was related to the original modem/router overheating, but when I replaced it with a ZyXEL or Belkin they refused to synchronize and connect most of the time. Turned out there were multiple issues in play: Modem/Router overheating, telephone line deteriorating due to extreme age, DSLAM port on TOT side incompatible with non TP-Link/Fourth devices.

Suggest only purchasing replacement unit that they agree to take back if it doesn't work.
