Strange thread is this because this place is on its arse tourist wise. It becomes less safe year after year with no particular interest shown in the safety of tourists. Its become an expensive holiday destination with a growing anti farang vibe. Yes it has its good points but they appear to becoming fewer and fewer as the years go by

i know Thailand since decades as a tourist and living here now permanently since 11 years i claim the good points increased tremendously as the years went by. one of the recent good points is "less tourists" especially less Farang riff-raff.

Inevitably, tourists see a country thru tourist glasses. No matter, if they spend their holidays on Mallorca or in Thailand.

It's just that 20 years ago. Thailand was the "only game in town" in S/E Asia. This is changing rapidly.

Cheers.

Agree Mr. Naam. It's strange that two people can see the exact same things differently. Or perhaps it has something to do with ones own attitude and personal issues.

Plenty of tourists around as far as I can see.

I gather the sex tourism industry continues to shrink, so if guess if that's the particular pool you swim in it might seem like numbers are down.

As an observation:the current hotel I work for calls a bad occupancy 90% normal is 95% and everything above considered good...whole year around...

I agree the western tourists are declining but replaced by ( rich) Asian,Indians or Arabs.

Tourists are still flocking to Thailand just the demographics are changing....

now we are the 20 th October and should be high season.

I don't see many tourist. look like a dead season.

I have seen many business closing doors, and some have 0 customers.

don't tell me it s good. it's bad. when the Thai baht is going down, it means it s not going well at all.

remove your pink glasses and look around.

Russians gone, farangs gone, Indians gone, Thais remain but even Thais want get out.

Of course, some that leave continue to bash the place even after they've long gone. Still can't figure that one out.

You mean like...most of the "farangland" bashing on this forum? The opposite of love is not hate - it is apathy. Every "Thai basher" loved Thailand at some time just like every "farangland" basher loved their country of origin at some time. Condemning the dissenters with personal attacks is not a noble act, it is an expression of insecurity that they might be right.

Chiang Mai has had a heavy influx of tourists all through the low season (high season starts in November). I'm already dreading the high season as we may see major gridlock everywhere. I assume you're in Pattaya. The sooner that place dies out, the better.

What? I talk about my homeland (USA) all the time, negative and positive. It's because I know it well. But farangs who've left Thailand but still bash it....hardly the same as Thailand was never their homeland. I've visited/lived in dozens of countries in the past--do I need to go back and bash every one? You're not making any sense.

Its not worth replying to someone who bases wild assumptions about people he's never met. Its just pig ignorance.

Maybe so but it's routine.

The increases over the last few years are mostly from China, Russia and Middle Eastern countries. The people who live in cold countries will continue coming here or other warm areas for the winter months but I don't think the numbers will increase. With more southeast Asian countries opening up and working on their tourist industry I think Thailand will see a decline in most countries except China and perhaps India who's numbers will continue to increase.

Reasons for coming are weather, beaches ( not really nice but Thailand advertises they are), sex, and just because some people have not been here yet and want to see.

Sitting on my patio overlooking islands and if I do nothing all day, I have only myself to blame. Incredible food, shopping, and other possibilities depending on taste.

Definitely other destinations with better cuisine, beauty... but none that blend it all together as well as Thailand.

Could you elaborate and be specific on what, when and where: " I have seen many business closing doors and some have 0 customers " ?
