Supreme Court acquits former Wang Nam Yen police in RPG firing case
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Supreme Court Tuesday acquitted a former police officer from Sakaew's Wang Nam Yen district from charges that he had fired an RPG rocket at the Defence Ministry during red-shirt protests in 2010.

The Supreme Court acquitted Banthit Sitthithum, 48, former police officer of the Wang Nam Yen police station, on the benefit of the doubt.

He was charged with collaborating with another man to fire RPG rocket at the Defence Ministry on March 20 2010.

The court ruled that prosecutors' witnesses and surrounding evidences were contradicting and not convincing, so the evidences were not strong enough to convict the suspect.

The court did not believe that the four witnesses could see Banthit's face clearly at night when it was dark.

Banthit did not turn up to hear the ruling. The Supreme Court on September 9 issued an arrest warrant against Banthit after he failed to turn up to hear the ruling initially scheduled to be read that day.

Banthit was convicted by the Criminal Court in the charges but he was acquitted by the Appeals Court on the benefit of the doubt.

He was released on bail pending a ruling by the Supreme Court but he later jumped bail and has not been accounted for.

So He skips bail, doesnt show for the two court appearances and then found not quilty.

Any bets that he is never brought in for defying a court order/s or even looked for ? What an upstanding police officer.

With justice like this Thailand actually deserves terrorist atrocities on it's soil. Sad and pathetic display of non-justice. Usual reasons why I suppose, pastry boxes, and external threats. Prayuth probably considers this another perfect case.

BANGKOK: -- The Supreme Court yesterday acquitted a former police officer from Sa Kaew's Wang Nam Yen district of charges that he had fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) at the Defence Ministry during the 2010 red-shirt protests.

The court granted Banthit Sitthithum, 48, former police officer at the Wang Nam Yen police station, the benefit of the doubt.

Banthit had been charged with collaborating with another man to fire an RPG into the Defence Ministry compound on March 20, 2010.

The court ruled that the prosecution's witnesses and related evidence was either contradictory or not convincing enough to convict the suspect.

The court also did not believe that the four witnesses could have seen Banthit's face clearly in the dark.

Banthit did not turn up to hear the ruling. The Supreme Court had on September 9 issued an arrest warrant for Banthit after he failed to turn up to hear the verdict, which was initially scheduled to be read that day.

The suspect was first convicted by the Criminal Court but acquitted by the Appeals Court on the benefit of the doubt.

He was released on bail pending the Supreme Court ruling, but jumped bail and has not been seen since.
