October 25, 201510 yr With a multiple entry non b visa can I do a border crossing in sadao, without having a work permit? Will there be any problems? Do the immigration officers ask for a work permit? I'm thinking to go to Penang and back next day. If there are problems then will it be safer to fly in and out?
October 25, 201510 yr I don't know about that border. Generally IO's can ask to see the WP but don't always do so. You can't be denied entry for not having a WP, but not having a WP might make the IO suspicious and question you about what you're doing when in-country. You could be denied entry if the IO believes you are working without a WP. Someone was recently stopped and questioned when flying in so I doubt that makes much difference. If you have a WP take it with you. Edited October 25, 201510 yr by elviajero
October 25, 201510 yr Sadao may tell you that you need to stay overnight. Pedang Besar is friendlier crossing and will not ask for the work permit.
October 25, 201510 yr Author The thing is that my WP has been canceled, now I have a new job and I gotta wait until they make a new visa and new work permit. However till that happenes I gotta do a visa run cuz my current non b multiple entry requires me to go out and in every 90 days. The visa is still valid, but no WP. I've read in other related topics that non b multiple doesn't require to have a wp, but I have always gone to ranong for a border run and every time I was asked to sho WP. I guess with other borders it's pure luck and a lot depends on the IO.

October 25, 201510 yr I assumed you already had a multiple entry non-b visa. You will not get a multiple entry non-b visa in Penag without a work permit valid for at least 8 months.

October 26, 201510 yr Might be an idea to have 20,000b in your wallet, reports on teachers fb groups say it has been requested even tho' you have a non-b. Edited October 26, 201510 yr by recom273
October 26, 201510 yr I'd go with ubonjoe's answer - go to Padang Besar as they're far more relaxed than at Sadao. I've had Non B visas in the past without a work permit and done exactly the same as you want to do.

October 26, 201510 yr I have a multiple entry B visa and no work permit at the moment. Thanks to advice here I went to Pedang Besar and they asked many questions about what I was doing nd where I have been but were very polite and I got the new stamp.
October 26, 201510 yr Hello, I'm afraid that you've been overstaying in Thailand since your WP has been cancelled, technically speaking. You'll need a letter of termination from your former company to cancel your Non-B. When will you have to do a border run and your new company be ready for the documents for your new Non-B & WP?

"I'm afraid that you've been overstaying in Thailand since your WP has been cancelled, technically speaking." Pretty sure that only applies if he were on an extension of stay since the cancelled wp would mean the extension was no longer valid. If he has a valid visa, he should be OK to exit and re-enter and he wouldn't be on overstay. Edited October 26, 201510 yr by Suradit69

You'll need a letter of termination from your former company to cancel your Non-B. When will you have to do a border run and your new company be ready for the documents for your new Non-B & WP? A multiple entry non 'B' visa is valid for 1 year from issue whether or not you have a WP. Extension of stays for working are issued only if you have a WP permit, and if the WP is cancelled so is the extension of stay. If you don't leave then you're on an overstay. The OP has a valid visa and is not overstaying.
October 26, 201510 yr With a multiple entry non b visa can I do a border crossing in sadao, without having a work permit? the question is a without work permit as not hat the document wtih you, small problem because in most passport tyhe employer is stamped in to the Visa page as well somewhere in the back too. b without work permit as that the work permit is canceled, expired or terminated. the work permit has a visa that is depending on the work permit. no valid work permit also no valid VIsa that depend on this work permit in case A nearly no problem but can loose some time and have a nice speech that you need to have the work permit with you all times depending on the mood you get a fine.. in case B.you can run into some big problem because you try to enter or use a Visa to stay that is not valid. .

October 29, 201510 yr Is it possible to travel to pedang besar to cross into Thailand first (either by bus or train) Where would I catch minibus to go from pedang besar to Danok and vice versa? Do I have to go to Hat Yai town first? I will have a non-O coming back into thailand. I want to avoid being hemmed up for cash at Sadao. Is everyone being asked for this or is it just specific countries?

You can get a moto-taxi for a couple of hundred, but no need to unless you want a night out on the town. You can catch a van from Padang mini van station to HY, from HY you can get to anywhere further via train / plane / coach/ If you are coming back from Malaysia with your visa and you really want to keep out of the way, use the train but its long and slow. The Penang mini-vans don't usually go to Padang, Its a long trek from National Highway 1 although there is local transport that heads that way, on the Thai side, its only 25km between Danok and Padang. Coming from Penang. Looking to spend a night or 2 in danok. Having a backup ready in case i need to bypass sadao border. Never had problems before, maybe i'm just being paranoid?
October 30, 201510 yr Ahh .. Yeah, just grab a Moto taxi from Padang to danok .. It's about 20-25 km, i did it after I missed the van 6 years ago. Rather than a night in Padang, I had a night out on the town in Danok. It was 200b or so for the Moto-taxi - if they ask too much, somehow get to the main road on the big bus outside immigration and then catch a songthaew going to Danok. Not too sure how you are going to Padang Bezar tho' from Penang - it's either train or getting the van to drop you off at the junction then make your own way. I did it the other day on my bike, it added another hour or so's riding - I have a multi-o and I just wondered why I did it, I had more than 20k in my pocket. Good luck.
