O A Visa - retirement question re. Re- entry and expiry

Featured Replies

I have non immigrant O A Visa stamped valid until 22 January 2016. I departed Thailand and re- entered in August this year and immigration stamped my passport allowing me to stay until August 2016.

I plan to return to Australia in February 2016 and return 3 months later in May. What should I do to keep my permission to stay in Thailand under my visa ? Is it just a case of getting a re-entry permit before I leave and when I return the expiry of my visa will be August 2016 ?

Thanks for any advice

Yes

You must buy a re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay alive.

Yes. Buy a re-entry permit (1,000 baht) and your stay until August 2016 is kept on re-entry.

You need to get a re-entry permit before you leave in February to keep your current permit to stay valid when you re-enter the country. It does not keep your visa valid.

I suggest you do a border hop shortly before the enter before date on your visa to get another one year entry and then get the re-entry permit for it.

Can you buy a re-entry permit when you report 90 day stay at the local immigration office ? How long does it last ie. is there an expiry date on the permit.

You can get your re-entry permit during the same trip to immigration to do your 90 day report. They do the re-entry permit on the same day you apply for it.

If you do what I suggested in my previous post you would want wait a while before getting it.

A border run for me would be a cheap flight out of Krabi. If I flew out and flew back same day, would that be ok in eyes of immigration ? They would stamp my passport giving me another 12 mths ?

Yes you can.

It'll be valid until Aug 2016. The period of your current permission to stay.

No problem to do an out and back on the same day to get a new 12 month entry.

Only if the visa is valid.

So, before the original date of expiry of 22 January 2016, right ?

If January 26th is the enter before date on your visa sticker that would be the last day you could do it.
