BANGKOK — The ruling military junta warned that Redshirt leaders will be held responsible if their supporters go ahead with a plan to wear red shirts simultaneously all across the country Sunday.

Deputy junta chairman Pravit Wongsuwan issued the warning this morning, referring to calls made by Redshirt activists on social media to wear red on Nov. 1 as a gesture to support former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra – despite Redshirt leaders have already denied any involvement in the campaign.

“If the mass wearing of red shirts does take place, those who do it and their leaders will be held responsible, because there are laws that can prosecute this kind of action,” said Gen. Pravit, who also serves as Minister of Defense. “I insist that anyone can wear red, because today there is no [political] division based on different colors anymore, but it doesn’t mean that they can wear red to band together to do something.”

The campaign, which seemed to surface among Redshirt supporters on social media last week, urged Redshirts across the nation to show support for former PM Yingluck, who is currently facing a court trial on allegations of corruption in her administration.

Political activities and protests of any kind have been banned since the military junta seized power from the Redshirt-backed government in May 2014. Redshirt leaders and politicians have also kept a low profile since the coup, largely to comply with the junta’s ban on political activities.

I find it quite bizarre that this "administration" wants to create compliant, think-alike clones out of the Thai population, but gets very exercised at the thought that they might all wear the same colour garment!

Getting arrested for wearing a shirt. Ridiculous. There are laws that can prosecute wearing a shirt?

Are Manchester United playing on that day?

Has anyone set a election date ?

This will clarify all concerns..

The rest is just that media promotion and control

Get this to the people that's what was intended all along correct. Charters do not take a eternity movie scripts are written with accuracy and creation.

I can not see the issue it's kinda garter stuff

Sounds like a set up to me. The red shirt leaders have already said they donot want it.Maybe someone (Shutdown Bangkok) is footing the bill to hire some people to dress in red and creat havoc.

That is not what he said (read it again)

Most people are fully aware of how stuff kicks off in this country, it can get out of hand very quickly

If the red shirt leaders are smart they will tell everone to camouflage themselves by wearing yellow shirts that would create utter confusion.

"...because there are laws that can prosecute this kind of action,” said Gen. Pravit, who also serves as Minister of Defense. “I insist that anyone can wear red, because today there is no [political] division based on different colors anymore, but it doesn’t mean that they can wear red to band together to do something.”

There are "laws"? Pravit, what a joker!

And for his next trick: "there is no [political] division based on different colors anymore...."

it seems like the good general needs to take certain TV posters in for a little attitude adjustment

Gosh I hadn't heard about this! Thanks Junta for spreading the word to every village and hamlet. Now Junta please arrest yourself for spreading this information.

People warned against rallying in red on Sunday
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has warned red shirt leaders against mobilising members to wear red and rally in support of ex-PM Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday over the legal actions being taken against her.

Prawit said if there was a red shirt rally on that day red shirts who led to the protest would be held responsible.

"Everyone can wear red but there is no use wearing red and rallying. It is not allowed," he said.

"We are not afraid of any groups expressing their opinions. We will take legal action according to the law."

The red shirt rally threat came after the government moved to make Yingluck pay for civil liability incurred from her then government's rice-pledging scheme at an amount to be evaluated by the ministries of finance and commerce.

Yingluck and the party she led, Pheu Thai Party, deem the move unjust because the criminal trial against her over the rice-pledging scheme has just started.

The government however said it would be charged with negligence if it did not act before the case's statue of limitations expired.

Are you a graduate of the LT school?

Looks like you graduated for twist and confuse and write things which are in fact lacking in truth, very lacking truthful reporting and quoting.

Just another attempt by the self appointed government to try to control the people minds. But their hearts they will never control.

One more suggestion: switch from red to orange. As in prison suit color. Make processing easier.

Yet more proof about the junta's desire for reconciliation in Thailand.

This should be enough to make every rational thinker in Thailand see red!

So these crackpot loonies want to ban people from wearing red across Thailand on Sunday.

Well can't wait for that to go viral, just to show the world that there is no need to think the Thailand administration are stark bonkers, this now proves it they are

No, they want to ban people from wearing red in a manner which is not to their liking, which is one up (or down) from stark bonkers: 'YOU! YOU'RE NICKED! Wear red incorrectly on a Sunday, would you, you slaag...?'

red is the colour for Sunday

clever ploy

Are Manchester United playing on that day?

Very funny!

No freedom of speech, no freedom of peaceful assembly either.

Thailand now has a law for everything and a prison for everyone.

I only have a few red shirts, but what day is this?

Lets all get out in red shirt and pretend it is being worn in protest against the Junta, only all stay separated. coffee1.gif

Huh?

A Thai gentleman told me that there is a warehouse fully stocked with black shirts. What could that mean?

Besides Man U, is Liverpool playing?

Besides Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are also playing on Saturday 31st, so no red shirts for you on Sunday.

However if you like red and white stripes, Sunderland and Southampton are on the field on Sunday..

A Thai gentleman told me that there is a warehouse fully stocked with black shirts. What could that mean?

The New Zealand rugby team is coming to Rajamangala?

A furthe challenge to free expression. I'll be wearing red underpants in solidarity.

Sunday also happens to be "All Saints Day", a major feast in the Roman Catholic Church. If I remember correctly, priests wear red vestments to celebrate Mass on major feast days...
