Rice scare in Poipet reveals plastic pieces

Featured Replies

A rice-milling company has admitted to letting pieces of plastic from its machinery make their way into bags of rice after residents and authorities in Banteay Meanchey’s Poipet town raised fears of “plastic rice” upon finding their rice abnormally sticky since the Pchum Ben holiday.

Local resident Say Samoeun, 47, said he bought a 50-kilo bag of Minh Bo Company rice, only to find that the grains seemingly fused together during cooking.

“The family members started to feel unusual headaches and stomachaches since we started consuming the rice in the new bag,” Samoeun said.

It gets no better than this. Beware of synthetic eggs as well. They (purportedly the Chinese) have managed to convincingly duplicate both the inner and outer egg, with the only sure visual tell being the absence of the membrane between the two, once opened. And of course, whatever happens when the "engineered" egg hits the frying pan. What a time to be alive.

Qaulity control at it's best.

The plank got ground up in the machine and entered the rice bags we did not recall the rice.

Nope. The cost of a board is more than the cost of rice so the substitution would result in a net negative situation.

Just laziness and indifference.

Just laziness and indifference.

And greed. Anything to increase profits. coffee1.gif
