October 28, 201510 yr Hello everyone, I'm currently studying thai in Bangkok and i believe that i now have the knowledge level of thai i wanted to. So i would now like to have a tourist visa to continue my adventure. When my ED visa runs out do you know if i will be able to make a tourist visa in Thailand ? Or will i have to leave the country and apply from somewhere else ? Will the border police be ok with the fact that i'm now on a Tourist visa directly from an ED one ? This seems like a very basic request but we all know that in thailand you can never expect "normal" ahah, hence the question. Thanks
October 28, 201510 yr You'll need to get the tourist visa from an embassy/consulate in a neighbouring country. You should have no problem entering again with a tourist visa but the immigration officer might ask you about the purpose of your visit and the long time in Thailand.
October 28, 201510 yr if i will be able to make a tourist visa in Thailand Tourist visas are only issued at embassies or consulates, all of which are outside Thailand.

That's a bit weird that they can't do such procedure in their own country...But since living in thailand i have stopped questioning myself about administration mesures

Mine does not ! BTW It is Thailand and measures !
October 28, 201510 yr - it's standard procedure to apply for a visa outside any country. - As an ex ED visa, you won't get asked anything, but you might want to get a cancellation letter from your school. That will prevent you being questioned or delayed when leaving the country by land or air.

I read the following text on the website of the MFA. Doesn't this mean you can get the new METV at any embassy/consulate, and not only at your home country? Thailand is launching the “Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV)” scheme. This new type of visa is an addition to the already existing 60 days tourist visa, and will be effective from 13 November 2015 onwards. The METV is applicable to tourists of all nationalities wishing to travel to the Kingdom. Applicants can apply for the METV at all Royal Thai Embassies, Consulates-General and Honorary Consulates worldwide. The application fee is 5,000 THB with a visa validity of 6 months and the duration of stay of up to 60 days per visit. The METV scheme aims to boost Thailand’s tourism industry and Thailand’s readiness for the ASEAN Community at the end of this year. Edited October 30, 201510 yr by krissch
October 30, 201510 yr That is what the MFA says but some embassies have already made up their own rules and are only going to do them for citizens and legal residents of the country where they are located. Many embassies already have the rule that they will not do any visa unless you are a resident.

Those Embassy's which have posted requirement(s) for the METV are all worded in a remarkably similar manner and all state the visa will only be available to citizens/legal residents. This, to me, this indicates Central Direction/Instruction probably from the MFA.

So the only hope to get a METV in this region is Laos, which hasn't specified any requirements/conditions yet?

I read it to say that it will be available to all nationalities and that it will be available at all embassies/consulates. Who can apply at what embassy/consulate can only be known when the MFA update their website with application criteria or each embassy/consulate publishes it's own criteria.
