Dear All

Visited UK Embassy BKK recently to get what used to be called an

Affirmation of the UK Marriage Certificate in order to register the UK

wedding in Thailand.

Was told by the receptionist at the Embassy gate that a new system

prevailed, ie. wedding certificate has to sent to UK for "Legalisation"

and this could not be done by consular services BKK.

Despite asking several times I was refused entry in order to get some

clarification.

Duly sent wedding certicate to UK and paid £55 for this service.

I received a small attachment pasted to the back of the wedding certificate;

this attachment is entitled "Apostille" and contains a stamp from

Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

Had this translated into Thai along with Thai translation of wedding certificate and went

to MFA Changwattana for Thai registration.

MFA advised me I had to take Apostille to UK Embassy for stamping!!!!

Anyone had a similar experience or have I been serially mislead?

Cheers

I got married in Thailand ten years ago and asked about registering it in the UK and was told I didn't have to. Since then I have registered my wife's name with my pension company among other things with no problems. The marriage is accepted in the UK with no worries about anything.

Ooooops I guess I misread your post and looked at things the wrong way round when I posted before.

Why do you want to register a UK marriage in Thailand??? What's the benefit of that? Never ever heard of anyone doing this before.

I think you need to register a UK marriage in the amphur in order to obtain a one year wife extension, i have over simplified the process.

do a search on here .
