Most of the scammers are Nigerians. They use Facebook and chat applications to befriend the victims. They used photos of good-looking farangs or foreign politicians, like David Cameron, the British Prime Minister.

Scotland should have got it's own government during the recent referendum.

Only fair seeing as England has got itself a Nigerian Prime Minister.

England doesn't have it's own Prime Minister.

Great Britain does though.

The quote didn't say that Cameron was a Nigerian.

We all know what kind of fake lover Cameron is partial too, maybe the poor lady thought she was getting the whole pig farm.

BANGKOK: -- A Thai woman who paid THB23 million to her online farang boyfriend is among the victims of online scammers posing as hot foreign men such as British Prime Minister David Cameron.

People of the UK, your prime minister is officially a heartbreaker in the land of smiles.

Pornnapat Chartphuek, administrator of a Facebook page called Thai Anti-Scam, yesterday filed a police complaint on behalf of the victims who came forward after they were scammed out of a total of THB29 million by their online lovers.

One woman alone gave her fake prince THB23 million.

On Thai Anti-Scam, a Facebook page created to discuss farang lover scams, Pornnapat said 15-20 victims come forward each day.

First things FIRST

Even Thais can figure out that passport photos are not allowed to be half body as this one is? just face? clearly looking STRAIGHT onwards?

Andy Joe? could only have been a Thai coming up with two first names

First things first, not all Thais have passports so it's illogical to assume that they should know anything much about them particularly the specific requirements the photo has to meet.

Secondly, it's more likely to be a Nigerian that came up with the name, they're trying to scam Thais remember.

even more illogical to give away 23m and i would hesitate to suggest Thais have 'inventive' ethics so it may well have been 23k not 23m

Stupid is as stupid does.

For those who are so inmature and can't come up with a half decent rebuttal and have to resort to insulting other posters, get a life and try reading this.

a catch-all term that basically means that stupid people are gonna keep on doing stupid things because that's what they are, period. The term was popularized in the 1994 Tom Hanks 3-hour blockbuster movie Forrest Gump.

In closing. Hahahaha

More scams! Not surprising. Thailand has asked that scamming be recognised as an olympic event in the next summer olympics feeling confident that they could easily win the gold.

Sorry - Vanessa Mae is busy that summer, so they will have to find someone else.

Really? didn't know that David Cameron was handsome!!!

I am sorry but you and a few other posters have not read the OP carefully. It clearly says:

"They used photos of good-looking farangs OR foreign politicians, like David Cameron, the British Prime Minister.”

It is all a question of investment for thai people ,

If the gain is a pension, it may have something earn free food to eat ,

But if the gain is 1 billion , we may well invest a few million ,

which were themselves taxed at a other boy.

So there is nothing new, except that the Heartbreaker is not Thai.

My wife got a message on her Facebook (it's now friends only) from a guy declaring his undying love for her. Said he was from Canada ... they obviously don't learn english there.

She replied sorry but said a friend would be interested and I made up an e-mail address.

We have now been declaring undying love for each other for 3 weeks. He says he's building a VIP Lounge at the new Doha Airport. A 1.4 million dollar project.

I just snipped a few pics from the internet and send them now and again with a sweet message written on the pics. I use a VPN ... guess I'll get bored soon.

Do they have to say 'farang' in formal print media? Yeesh! It just looks really ghetto when they translate everything to English, but leave that word in tact.

Here we go again. It's not a pejorative term, it's not insulting - it's simply saying the person in question is not Thai.

Foreigner is similar to farang - remember Thais find it just as difficult to pronounce English words as we do Thai. In another version, it's a Thai joke - falang is one Thai word for celery, which is long and white/

If you really want to feel insulted, try Chinese (gweiloh) or Japanese ( gaijin ). Both translate as barbarian.

Personally, I find it difficult to believe a woman who has 23 million baht by her own work or inheritance is going to be that ignorant with money.

I have only been here 12 years, but have never met a Thai Lady with 23M THB, "Guess I have friends in low places" !!

I would suggest any Thai woman with a spare 23m TBH wouldn't be that stupid to part so easily with 100Bht let alone 23m. I say BS story.

No head and shoulders passport photo, instead, an angled body shot... yet someone still fell for it... facepalm.gif

Yep---- and even the signature at the bottom bears no resemblance to the stupid name.I dont believe any Thai woman (or Lady) would have 29 million lying around let alone be fooled by such an amateur passportcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

This is not right of course but this scam has been going on for years and it happens everywhere. One of the downfalls of social media with conmen praying on the innocent or even vulnerable.

Nothing can be done to get the money back of course, its gone and so are the scammers, although 23 million baht is a lot of money how much would the Thai police invest in doing and International investigation? i suspect nothing at all.

Also, what about the people who are fraudulently scammed out of their money here in Thailand? There are many stories, these would be easier to resolve and yet nothing ever happens.

In short, dont hold your breath, the RTP are about as useful as a carpet fitters ladder.

It's just some guys who are trying to get even for those Thai women who did it to them.

----------------------------------------

As the saying goes, "There is a sucker born every minute"......and apparently some of them are female.

Wow, an obvious innuendo comes to mind gigglem.gif
