Hello everybody.

I am in need of a very urgent information. I have a multiple non immigration o (married to my Thai wife). My enter before date is 12.03.2016. At the moment i can stay until the end of next week. So my idea is to take my wife and go to chaeng wattana and get a 60 days extension on my current entry based on visiting my wife. And then in about 60 days I intend to leave the country to activate another entry. And then in March do another exit out of the Thailand.

Now I was told that if I do it that way immigration will void my visa.

Is that true?

Or is my plan going to work?

I wonder who is giving you "information" ?

If you wish a 60 day extension can be applied for following every 90 day entry ( One extension per entry)

Immigration will not "void" the visa.

Thank you for your answer. That is what I thought too.

But then I was told that if I do a 60 days extension now and then leave the country in 60 days they won't give me a permission to stay until my enter before day. I was very confused when I heard that.

So, you would also say that my plan is perfectly fine?

If you exit/enter prior to the "enter before" date you will receive a 90 day permission to stay stamp.

Thanks again. That is exactly how I understand the rules until I was told differently.

I was even told that for the 60 day extension I need some photos now ... Similar to those that u have to produce for a 1 year extension.

So for me my strategy is still doable. Get a 60 day extension now and then leave the country to get another 90 days. About 5 months in total.

Am I right?

I really appreciate your help.

I apologize for repeating some facts / questions here but I really got so confused when I was told that I might get into problems leaving and reentering the country the next time after I had a 60 days extension. And at the moment immigration rules are changing a lot.

So ....

Nov 5, 2015: I will go to Chaeng Wattana and apply for a 60 days extension based on visiting my wife. This will give me an extension until Jan 4, 2016

Dec 19, 2015: I will leave the country. And when I come back I will be given 90 days. Then I can stay until March 18, 2016

March 10, 2016: I will leave the country again and when I come back the same day I activate my last entry of my multiple non Immigrant O. This gives me 90 days until June 8, 2016

Sorry again to get so much into details. But can I do it exactly like this??

Could I even go to Chaeng Wattana again in June 2016 and get another 60 days extension?

1. While the multi entry visa is valid you can exit/enter as often as you wish

2. Re entering the country with a valid visa will always give you a 90 day entry.

3. Each 90 day entry can be extended by 60 days if you qualify for the extension.

You can do it like you wrote.

No problem to get another 60 day extension in June.

I don't know who was telling you that wrong info. I don't know where people come up with such strange ideas..

Immigration will not "void" the visa.

Apparently that's not the case at immigration in Chiang Mai.

They were refusing the extensions and telling people to border hop.

I avoid discussing any immigrations issues with other expats. Some of the things you hear are total nonsense and if you suggest they might have got it wrong, they tend to get angry. Best to just smile, say chok dee and change the conversation to something else.

Is it any wonder than some of the immigrations officers get annoyed with all the farang "experts" who want to argue with them about the most basic things. Generally their patience is herculean.

Thanks to everybody for the advice.

Maybe one last question regarding the documents needed.

The immigration's website states these documents:

1. Application form
2. Copy of applicant’s passport
3. Copy of household registration certificate
4. Copy of national ID card of the person having Thai nationality
5. Copy of a marriage certificate or copy of a birth certificate
The household registration is my wife's blue book? I am not in this book since we stay in Bangkok together.
Anything else needed.
I am asking because I don't want to get rejected due to missing documents.
And I don't have a big trust in the immigration's website in regards to up-to-dateness.

The house registration will be a copy of your wife's registration in a house book. You cannot be registered in a blue house book.

Your wife will need to be with you when you apply.

You may need proof or residence. A rental agreement with a copy of the owners house book and ID card attached to it is often asked for.

Yes, I will take my wife.

Hmmm? My rental contract in Bangkok is on my wife's name.

So actually I cannot prove my residence.

Maybe I should change all this to my name.

It causes problems. I would like to have a Thai driver's licence but I heard that you need proof of residence for that too.

So maybe I should change the rental contract real fast.

They will accept the rental contract in you wife's name.

You need a certificate of residence form immigration or your embassy to get a drivers license. Since you are not making 90 day reports to them Bangkok immigration will not do one for you. You will need to get one from your embassy.
