LONDON: -- The latest company to suffer a high profile hacking attack is Vodafone. Hackers have managed to access 1,827 customer accounts at the company. Mobile telephone numbers and bank sort codes were leaked, but apparently debit and credit card numbers were not compromised.

“We can confirm that Vodafone UK was subject to an attempt to access some customers’ account details between midnight on Wednesday 28 October and midday on Thursday 29 October”, the company said in a statement. The accounts have been blocked, and Vodafone says that if you are among them you will already have been contacted by the firm.

“The information obtained by the criminals can not be used directly to access customers’ bank accounts”, says Vodafone. “However, this information does leave these 1,827 customers open to fraud and might also leave them open to phishing attempts”.

Talk Talk, and now Vodaphone. One has to scratch their heads about cybersecurity at UK telecoms. No wonder Murdoch's minions had such an easy time hacking mobile accounts and voice message systems.
