Would this be acceptable to pay in bkk ? (like 500k elite + 20k fine be accepted without any fuss)

Or would it be necessary to pay the 20k fine at airport and go out and come back in and then apply for it?

I am sure you will need a valid permit to stay when you apply for the elite membership/visa. That means you would need to leave an re-enter the country to clear your overstay.

You need to go out of the country and apply on re-entry.

Immigration will not issue a visa to someone with a 40+ day overstay. You would likely be arrested and put through the deportation process. Thailand elite membership doesn't protect you from the law.

I am only 6 days overstayed on a 4 week visa exemption stay but I've had a lot of tourism visas in the past so I might not get back in easily

Could I extend this for 1900thb and then apply?

I would rather not leave bkk if its possible

It would not be 20k unless you were on an overstayed of 40 days or more. The fine is 500 baht a day.

If you are not on overstay yet or only a few days of overstay you could apply for the 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry after you pay the overstay.

They don't count tourist visa stays against you when you enter visa exempt.

If it were a couple of days then maybe, but personally I wouldn't risk it beyond that.

I don't see why you will have a problem getting back in if by air and especially if you've already had a Thailand Elite application approved.

The number of tourist visas won't matter if you apply for the elite membership from outside the country. Upon arrival you will be met by elite staff and the new elite visa will be placed into your passport.

Thai elite will even provide a letter of confirmation of the visa, if needed by your airline to show proof when travelling on a one way ticket.

I am afraid not.

In the immigration mind set, you were legally stamped in.

To exit you need to pay your overstay fee and legally leave being stamped out.

It may seem silly, but every legal entry requires a legal exit to balance it out.

That is the immigration mindset in action.

Only once you exit may you re-enter again,

Thx for the info all,

if I have to fly home anyways I may try to apply for the new 6 months multiple entry visa if they're available

500k upfront is a a fair bit tbh but I can see the value of it adds up when you factor in unnecessary flights/costs every 60 days and the stress factor over 5yrs :)
