NLA gathers public input on constitution draft

LOPBURI, 8 November 2015 (NNT) - A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) visited the people of Lopburi Province to collect opinions on the drafting of the new constitution.

Mr Surachai Liengboonlertchai, first vice president of the NLA, was welcomed by the governor of Lopburi Province at Lopburi Inn Resort where he gave his takeaway on the current political situation in Thailand as well as the responsibility of the national legislature.

Mr Surachai was accompanied by members of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC).

The first vice president took this opportunity to have members of the public express their thoughts and suggestions on the new charter which is currently going through a drafting process. He noted that all of the suggestions will be deliberated carefully by the charter drafting body.

Before leaving Lopburi, Mr Surachai traveled to Singhalerkprasit School in Tha Wung District to observe its curriculum and teaching methods as well as donated learning materials to the school.

If you want people to believe its is an inclusive process, you are best advised to do your speeches, road shows etc prior to there being numerous announcements and musings from the charter drafters which indicate that at least as far as the electoral process is concerned, that it has already been decided.

I would of hoped that in their second attempt they would of at least tried to rectify some of the short comings that were found in the first attempt process, in that there appeared to be little or no public participation.

"welcomed by the governor of Lopburi Province at Lopburi Inn Resort". Um, how many farmers, street stall vendors, average working people attended? Don't see lots of them hanging out at resorts for some reason. Or even some of the well to do? Just another PR stunt to appear to get public input.

Well they are out there , whether or not they really will listen is debatable and who turned up, the faithful , most people would stay away in silent protest of the Junta, however they know what is required and what the people want , all the NLA has to do is carry out the peoples wishes , the Junta have been there for eighteen months, the ball is in the Junta's court, time to deliver.......................

Nice touch, visiting a small school to observe its curriculum and teaching methods as well as donating learning materials to the school.

Did the first vice president take this opportunity to explain to the public why he and the other NLA members couldn't allow the public to vote them into office? Or why instead it was necessary for the junta to abolish the previous public-approved constitution and replace it with one written by the military?

It seems incongruous and almost ludicrous to solicit the public on their input for a constitution when Surachai himself was appointed by a junta after it abolished a public-approved constitution and overthrew an elected government.

The opinion polls show that Thai people hate there system and even with there barin washing tactics and open my heart bto Thailand stories, they disagree with the current proposal

Like any normal citizen would they want a one vote on boss election... Your team will not win the election although will be remembered
