Govt. continuously combats human trafficking

BANGKOK, 8 November 2015 (NNT) - The government continues to tackle human trafficking, a national agenda issue, in the hope to raise Thailand's worker protection to meet international standards.

The government has completed an operational plan to prevent human trafficking in the labor sector in 2016. In the short term, there will be strategies to control employment agencies and urgently identify citizenship of foreign workers. Relevant laws will also be revised.

The plan's long-term solutions focus on the promotion of exporting and importing of workers by the government as well as legal actions against government employees and other people involved in human trafficking. Relevant units will be urged to work together more closely in fighting against human trafficking in all dimensions.

Sounds like a nice wordy way of saying nothing. "..fighting trafficking in all dimensions". I assume most effort will be placed on the 4th dimension which I believe exists in the space adjacent to the twighlight zone.

2 things strike me.

The National News Bureau of Thailand is a government press office. So what is the source? Which ministry? Which committee?

As ever with these announcements, everything is vague, everything is future aspirations, no specific goals, no stated deadlines and most importantly no concrete achievements.

"fighting against human trafficking in all dimensions"

With the arrest of Lt-General Manas, Col. Nattasit, Cpt. Visoot, Cpt. Santhat, Cpt. Wisut and Cmd. Kampanart for human trafficking, the Prayut government might look more aggressively at its own navy and army. Especially in light of three of the officers who belonged to the Internal Security Operations Command, a counterinsurgency agency.

" MIGHT " is the correct word. " " Highly unlikely " is also correct

This sounds a lot like the feel-good, let's be positive BS bulletins my employer is constantly releasing. Nothing specific, just a bunch of cute buzz words. In addition, there's only one reason they are issuing the propoganda, and most people know what that is, and it has nothing to do with human rights or dignity.

And the chances that any of these fine upstanding military men will ever be convicted and serve time in prison..............? Slim to none I would guess.

In an article in the BP, the police officer in charge of the trafficking enquiry complains he will be transferred to another position in the South.....

Hmmm . . . being shut out of favorable trade status? Pressure from countries that buy the vast majority of the goods you export?

Just once, I would love to see Thailand's government do something just because it was the right thing to do.

Investigation into alleged corruption of the Internal Operation Security Command, a government military counter-insurgency agency, would be warranted in view of human trafficking charges brought against army officers Col. Nattasit Maksuwan, Cpt. Visoot Boonnag and Cpt. Santhat Petchnoi. Also further investigation into the amry command in the Soutrm with the arrest of Lt. General Manas who was the commander of the upper south province of Chumphon in 2013, before taking a senior position in Songkhla would be warranted.

But no pronouncements from Prayut to crackdown on the military chain of command for involvement in human traffiking. Why?
