'Mor Yong' dies of septicemia at prison hospital

BANGKOK: -- Justice Minister General Paiboon Koomchaya said Monday that Suriyan Sujaritpolwong, better known as Mor Yong has died of septicemia at the Prison Hospital.

Paiboon said Suriyan was pronounced dead at 10 pm on Friday and the autopsy has been done.

Hotel receipts eligible for tax deductions

BANGKOK, 9 November 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is reminding those planning to stay at hotels during the winter season to hold on to their receipts for tax deduction purposes.


Tourism and Sports Deputy Minister Wansiri Morakul said hotel guests will be able to file up to 15,000 baht in hotel reservation expenses for tax deductions in the 2015 tax year. Receipts can be submitted along with tax returns no later than March 31, 2016.

However, Ms Wansiri noted that only accommodations licensed as official tourism or hotel establishments can issue valid receipts. The receipt must also clearly indicate the customer’s full name, amount paid and dates of reservation.

Monkey cheek dam expected to be built in Nakhon Sawan

BANGKOK, 9 November 2015 (NNT) – A consulting company has been hired to study the impact of a monkey cheek dam expected to be built in Nakhon Sawan province to help relieve the current drought crisis.


According to Nakhon Sawan Deputy Governor Banlue Sangajit, the consulting company that was hired by the Royal Irrigation Department (RID), is expected to survey public opinions and identify a construction site.

The monkey cheek dam will serve as a temporary water retention area which is aimed at supplying water to farmlands, preventing deluge and drought crisis. The study will also make sure that the capacity of the dam meets public expectation.

The RID and those involved in the construction will be advised on how to manage water efficiently and how people affected by the construction should be compensated.

PHUKET: -- A drunk minivan driver killed a Phuket police officer after jumping the curb and running him over at a u-turn near Phuket International Airport this morning.
