JoePai
A few small items have been sent to me from Australia by DHL. I have received an invoice from DHL for the Customs Duty - no problem. Where my problem does appear is they have charged Customs Duty on the items plus the Freight and Insurance ? Should the Duty only be on the items and not the Freight & Insurance? Thank you
harrry
No it is on the total. And gst is on the total plus duty if it applies.
blackcab
As harry said, you get whacked for the whole lot.
CharlieH
Item x import duty, +ins+ postage x vat =total

harrry
Good thing they are no shoes in the pack. Then the duty would have been about 80% on the whole package. Warning....mixed packages are charged duty at the percent rate of the highest rated item in the pack for the whole pack.
Langsuan Man
This is why we here at Thai Visa recommend not using private couriers like DHL, FEDEX, or UPS, since they are guaranteed to end up costing you duty because they bulk pay customs to get the container out of the customs warehouse and then customs goes through every invoice to charge individual item fees, which as others have said, include freight and insurance
brewsterbudgen
Presumably no charges are imposed on documents sent by DHL?
Langsuan Man
Presumably no charges are imposed on documents sent by DHL? So long as they are marked as documents on the customs label , anything else will incur duty
