BANGKOK: -- THE woman who stole an infant from a hospital four years ago and raised the child as her own will stay in prison as her bail request was denied, while the child's biological family has voiced concerns about the long distance they will have to travel to visit her.

The court yesterday rejected the Bt180,000 offer of bail, though the woman's family is ready to appeal the case. The woman was arrested on Friday when details of her theft of a two-day-old infant came to light. The child is now four years old.

The girl's biological family on Monday met with the foster family and they decided to raise the girl together initially. They announced their decision in the presence of social-welfare officials and police officers.

Dang, the girl's biological grandfather, said he was concerned about the 300-kilometre journey from his hometown in Khon Kaen province to the girl's house in Chaiyaphum province - a journey that will have to be undertaken every two or three weeks.

He said the journey was not very safe and his granddaughter would have to live with strangers.

"I will consult with related agencies to see if the girl can be brought by her other family to visit us. This way she can become familiar with her own family and surroundings," he added.

Enough is enough. The longer that family keeps that child the more psychological damage that will be done to her. The family should take their baby and the other family should be put in jail. Everyone who aided in the hiding of this little girl should go to jail if they did it knowingly. The real family needs to take this child back and care for her 100% of the time to form their family bond and to teach the girl that the other woman was a very bad lady who did something terrible by kidnapping and keeping her. 4 years old is not so much that the child can't adjust to having her real parents care for her and the baby snatcher will be forgotten in time. But if they continue to allow the criminals access to this little girl the damage could be permanent.

initially a story was posted where both families were getting along and a lot of people were posting how great it was. seems this was just some bull$#!t printed to give everyone the warm fuzzies. this story seems more believable. as already said the kid should be back to the correct parents as soon as possible. kids adapt at a young age.

Isn't it funny that the real flight risks in billion baht corruption scams or even murder cases, are always given bail, usually when it's totally unwarranted. In loso cases, where there is very little risk of absconding, they never get it, whether warranted or not.

What the Nation didn't report was she was overheard telling a family member that if she made bail, she would take the baby to Laos to live. Another inmate reported it to the prison officials.

My Note: Take that tidbit with a grain of salt, but its plausible - as for the poster that said "Only murderers or rapists get bail" - C'mon, how many Fahlungs that are not murderers or rapists get bail??? Nearly 100% You got the money, you get bail for crimes that do not hurt anyone - she hurt this baby in unmeasurable ways............wai2.gif
