Friend With Seven Hour Layover at DMK

Featured Replies

A friend from my old workplace in the US will have a seven hour layover at DMK starting at about noon this coming Sunday. Since I have not been there since they moved most international airlines to Swampy can someone please give me some insight as to easiest way to get to him, get a taxi without a two hour wait and maybe take him to the river for a trip downtown by express boat..

There used to be a way of going up to the departure area and get a taxi quickly but not sure if that is still optional. Also, is there (probably not) a left luggage area where he can leave his carry on whilst we are wandering around town. The site for the airport seems to be lacking in specific info and trains only seem to be running every hour or so.into Hualonphong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Walk out through the parking lot, or use the overhead pedestrian bridge, and descend to Wiphawidi-Rangsit Road, and get a taxi there. You avoid whatever surcharge they are demanding inside the airport, and are a bit more likely to find a driver who will agree to use the meter rather than try to cheat you. With two farang, one of whom will be carrying a bag, make sure he switches the meter on. And make sure you get the bag out of the car before you pay him.

Just a guess on this part; the hotel across the road might store your friend's bag, for a fee.

Thanks will give it a try - hope the boats are running reasonably often (site says every twenty minutes on Sundays) and it is not raining. Otherwise, other plans to be made. Al;so wondering if they still have to be back three hours ahead as they will already have their boarding passes and assume they can avoid the ticket office and just go directly to Immigration after bags scanned.
