Will new 6 month tourist visa mean end of 60 day tourist visa

Recommended Posts

I just got a 30 day extension last week. Can i go to immigration in Phuket next week and get the 6 month visa?

Would it start as of the date of issue or the date of expiry of the 30 day extension?

If you have a 6 month visa, do you still have to depart the Kingdom every 60 days?

Thanks for any help

No. You will have to leave Thailand to get another visa. Single entry tourist visas are available from neighbouring countries. If you want the new 6 month visa (METV) you have to get it from your home country.

Yes, if you have the METV you still have to leave every 60 days.

A friend going to Thailand for only 17 days wants to visit Siem Reap for 2-3 days in that period. He and his wife are travelling on a Croatian passport so is not eligible for a Visa Exempt entry. Not knowing about the new METV they applied to their Consulate in Croatia for a two entry Tourist Visa which would have cost 70 but was told they would have to have an METV costing 150 (5000 baht on Thai websites = 130 approx) an extra 160 for both of them. Other than wasting precious time going to the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh or paying an agent in Siem Reap and entrusting their passports to do this - and all the risks that involves - is there any other cheaper way to do the two entries?

Could apply for a SETV, and get a re-entry permit at passport control before flying to Cambodia. The desk in the corner before the passport queues. Allow an extra 20 mins or so in case there's a few people.

It allows you to come back and continue on the SETV.

Few people carry a balance of £5000 in a current account in the U.K. but could have a valuable property which clearly would not count or be taken into consideration?

It appears that Australians are not being subjected to any financial declarations? Why are the British being penalized yet again? What employer is going to issue a document

stating that he is happy for a member of staff to be away in Thailand for 6 months? Who thinks this stuff up???

Your post is off topic here. Please post it in this topic: The Multiple Entry Tourist Visa Topic (METV)

Looks like there will be more people at Vientiane and Savannakhet getting single entry tourist visas in the near future. They are good for 60 days then extend for another 30 days. Rinse and repeat until they say you have too many then get a new passport.

The METV requirements are total overkill, and are much more like Non-Immigrant applications than easy to complete tourist visas. Can't see this lasting long before more changes are made.
