Police slap Facebook ranter with Computer Crimes Act

KRABI: Police hit a Krabi woman with the Computer Crimes Act after she posted a Facebook video of herself verbally attacking the quality of police officers.

Sukanya Laiban, 23, recorded the video clip after Sen Sgt Maj Pratum Srichana of the Krabi City Police forced her to move her car from a no parking zone.

“In the video, she claims that police do not fulfill their duties well, but in fact police did nothing wrong to her,” Krabi City Police Superintendent Sompong Thipa-arpakul said. “This kind of slander can destroy our reputation.”

Following her posting of the clip, Ms Sukanya was summoned to the police station where she explained that she had just parked in the zone to make a quick delivery and that Sen Sgt Maj Pratum had been impolite when asking her to move. Nonetheless, she apologized.

However, Sen Sgt Maj Pratum said that Ms Sukanya had already caused a serious tailback and that he had told her to move her car, but did not give her a fine.

She isn't wrong though is she? Slander doesn't destroy the rtp's reputation.

A series of bungled investigations and high profile cases of criminality involving existing service members do.

The number of cops in inactive posts prove she isn't barking up the wrong tree.

Oh you mean the reputation that the girl really is talking about (of being corrupt lazy and...... well we all know the rest) ....you could not make this garbage up

Surprising that the Thai government has not used the computer crimes act on posts about the stitch up down in Koh Tao.

And yet another part of so called Social Media has taken away a little bit more of our freedom of speech,it was only mean't to make some whiz kids Multi Millionaires in the first place, who could easily control the feeble minded, Prolatariat!

"This kind of slander can destroy our reputation" ... what reputation would that be then Police Superintendent Sompong Thipa-arpakul? The one that sees your officers regularly take bribes, the one that shows you up for total and utter ineptitude when dealing with anything more complex than a traffic offence or the one that allows your officers to be involved in all sorts of scams and money making schemes? You reply is eagerly awaited.

Dozens of people being killed in the South every month, and the police devote resources to a solitary rant by a bored 23 y.o. girl?

Talk about terrible priorities and low-hanging fruit ....

Guess even Thai police would find a way to justify their actions on Facebook.

This woman might be seriously wrong, why use the Computer Crime Act against her?

She did what is done daily, break the law in a vehicle. Why this cop decided to enforce it right then, one will never know. Good on him. I wonder if the next one he sees gets a fine because of her little tantrum?? As far as her slanderous comments...welllllll.....we all know the truth with the RTP. No need to elaborate any further.

for me two things emerge from this;

first, when the police generally do not uphold the law, people who are quite reasonably required to follow it believe they are being unfairly picked on.

second, the outrageous overreaction to a whinging unimportant Facebook post is symptomatic of the apparent need of the "authorities" both police and military to control every aspect of dissent and stamp down on ordinary people - what are they afraid of? This girl is surely not going to amass a following and lead a counter coup!

Not like she is the first person to park in a NO parking zone....however she is one of a few who get caught out while the police officer involved made it clear to her there is no parking here...just like the sign says...but she did not want to comply so we can see she tried to turn it around and it back fired on her...ha ha ha ...another silly, mindless Thai girl.

Cheers

People always get angry at police if they are caught for breaking some rule. And at present times, they post their anger on Facebook.

If I were police, I would counter with a harsh comment on FB and a private smile.

No, but she might give the impression that people can express their opinions in public by using social media. That cannot possibly be allowed. What, a degree of freedom of speech? Never.

If they wanted her to move her vehicle from a No Parking area then they were totally correct. If she is so stupid to think they are not then she shouldnt be driving..............period

Posted

people are sick of scumbags parking their cars wherever they want. and police actions were totally justified. sue he for defamation. it will be a good lesson for those who think they can rant Thai authorities anonymously.

If this woman is sued with the Computer Crime Act, then all Farangs that permanently confuse fines and fees with bribes on social networks could be charged with the same offense.

my commiserations to this young lady who now will be used as an example to other facebook users who wish to slander our magnificent police force ? the superintendent I think must be on another planet he obviously thinks the rtp have a good reputation I think somebody should bring him up to date .

I feel sorry for this young lady because now they can use her as an example to other facebook users who wish to slander our great police force ? the superintendent whoever he may be must be on another planet he obviously thinks the police have a good reputation I think someone should put him wise .

Talk about abuse of power. This is a small issue that a good telling off can resolve, throwing this charge at her is so over the top its laughable.

Perhaps the police in question should be out doing his duties, enforcing the law and catching real criminals then wasting time publicising something like this.

I feel sorry for the girl, ok she should not have done what she did perhaps but I have never heard of such laughable policing.
