The government is ready to move forward with economic reforms here and abroad

BANGKOK, 13 November 2015 (NNT) - The government has expressed its readiness to move forward with economic reforms in Thailand and abroad, in a bid to boost the country’s economic status and strengthen the country.

In his “Returning Happiness to the People” television program, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha said domestic and foreign economic reforms must be done in parallel. The prime minister also placed an emphasis on improving local communities in a bid to promote further development and urged all sides to work together.

In addition, much emphasis is being placed on investment, which must be made transparently. It must also be done in line with the country’s reform plans and the 20 year national strategy. The prime minister hopes Thailand’s economy will strengthen over the next five years.

General Prayut said the government has to depend on cooperation from all sectors, in an effort to strengthen the country's economic status and end Thailand's image as only an average income country.

I've got a hot tip for the Prime Minister. The way to end Thailand's image as "an average income country" is to become an above-average income country. A few suggestions along that line:

- recognize that corruption saps the economic vitality of the country; stop avoiding the obvious, and address corruption in the police and military

- cancel the G2G rail deals with China; hire an internationally recognized program management firm for the rail system; procure the necessary rail projects using open international tenders

- cancel the sub deal once and for all

- continue listening to your finance minister; he's right more than wrong

According to the Gross National Income per capita published by The World Bank for 2014:

Out of 213 economies Thailand ranked 119 between Algeria and Jamaica; better than Indonesia (139), The Philippines (141) and Vietnam (161); but substantially less than Malaysia (86), Mexico (88) and Greece (50). Compare to some of the world's leading economies USA (14), Singapore (15), Japan (32) and China (100)

For Thailand to make it into "big Boy" country it needs to completely alter its economic focus from agriculture and raw materials to high-tec manufacturing, financial products and intellectual property production. At the country's current progress twenty years won't be enough time.

And get rid of the substance mentality which is only an excuse for the elites to do nothing to improve the quality of life for the majority of poor.

Will the driver please take his foot off the break and press the accelerator pedal so we can finally start moving forward.

Just make sure we're not in reverse gear before we start using the roadmap!

Plus, stamp out Corruption and Nepotism. Also take overseas advice. A good example of this is with the struggling Thai Airways. Instead of employing a European CEO as most struggling airlines have. This government appoints the top Royal Thai Airforce Commander. How crazy is this, just more family freebies.
