Western Food you miss in Thailand

Featured Replies

You can't have tried much Dutch cheese if you think it has no taste. The aged stuff for example has quite a kick to it. Or the stuff with cumin seeds in it.

Dutch cheese tastes like margarine......bah.gif

O..m..g..

What kind of dutch cheese you eat?

Thai Dutch cheese?

For a country that puts salad cream on fries says a lot about taste buds...bah.gif

Me, half a century of trying all sorts of cheese...Dutch stuff has no flavour at all. Margarine.....sad.png

Man get your facts before you post!

In Holland we put mayonaise on fries, not salad cream! And if you say that the Dutch cheese has no flavor, than maby you have to buy some real Dutch cheese.

But than what do I expect from somebody that eat there fries with ketchup?

Have a nice day.

Transam is from the UK so he would be into chips and curry, not fries and ketchup.

Some of the best cheese Ive ever eaten has been dutch.

I'm from the UK, and I put mayonnaise on my chips.

Mayo on your chips.

12 months in prison for that offence.

First of all it's French fries not chips. The world doesn't end at the UK. Second, vinegar on 'chips' sounds good to you right? I don't try to start a war here but please don't act that the UK is the know all end all about food or anything in particular.

Why don't we call them Pommes Frites then? Or Frieten?

The world doesn't end at the USA, either.

CHIPS!

Not that Macca stuff.

Vinegar - # 1

Mexican food

Pass!

Italiano - superb.

And yet in the USA when the "french fries" are put on a plate next to a piece of fish it is then a dish called fish and chips.

You are right soibiker, maybe I should ease up on the word for frieten, although I say patat ;)

@ don mega. That's for marketing purpose offcourse. Does fish and French fries sound appealing to you? Let's call a quarter pounder a Royale with cheese!

Opies pickled walnuts.

I miss a really good Turkish kebab.

I concur!

No, I live in Bangkok. But I've spent a lot of time in Amsterdam, and various other parts of the Netherlands. One of the few things I miss about Europe!

We should have lunch in the green parrot once. They have pretty good bitterballen :D

Oh yes...a good kebab. Just what I mentioned in post #17 ;)

The goose fat is a really good choice OP....duck and goose fat are really difficult to find in Thailand for some reason.

i bought 5kg (500Bht KG) of rendered duck fat at a duck factory in Bang Phli, let me know if you would like the details

Bombay Bad Boy (Pot Noodles) rolleyes.gif

As a French guy, I miss only one thing : cheese ; I know I can buy some in Makro , but I don't accept to pay 500 bahts or more for a litte piece of cheese

by chance, there is a BIC market near my home, and when their products are almost out of date, they sell them with 50 % discount and Casino cheese is

good even if there is not much choice ( 360 sorts of cheese in France ) ; with a warm baguette, it's ok

Unfortunately, soon, no French cheese half price and charcuterie in Big C because Casino will sell Big C . I think no more French food in supermarkets, after Carrefour and Casino

have a look here http://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/work/827848/big-c-to-be-sold-by-foreign-owner-shares-surge

Bacon and egg sandwich on doorsteps .

Doner kebab, once in a while.

Cup of tea.

Weird thing is I don't eat mc Donalds in the UK

But in Los I eat a big mc meal twice a month.

Cornish pasties

Taco Bell and Taco John's

Real Brits don't eat fries, we have proper chips and don't put mayonnaise on them. Each to their own, I fully accept that.
