The draft in the USA was far worse though possum if we use the number of body bags as the criterion for tragedy.

Yes, it was, you have heard the song 'Fifty Thousand Names Carved in the Wall'.

And what about the many more Vietnamese casualties, like today in Iraq, Syria and Beirut? Local deaths are ignored by the mass media.

I protest against this but i can't think of a song right now referring to that.

Eve of destruction - Barry Mcquire

Just as appropriate today after recent events as what it was when it was written by P F Sloan in the sixties and made famous by Barry McGuire.

Heres another great one, as relevant today as the day it was written by John Lennon, I prefer this version by Marianne Faithfull myself...

Hope you enjoy this one Possum.

Thanks xen, I enjoyed it. I put this one up on my 'Songs of War' topic.

When this song first came out, I understand some people complained about it thinking it was about the Vietnam war.

They obviously never read the words 'look real closely at the soldier coming at you through the haze, he may be your younger brother who ran away'.

It was obvious it was about the American Civil War 1861-1865.

Also appropriate today as a tribute to Mr Sloan, who died a just a few days ago. RIP.
