Chiang Mai to attract 2 million tourists during high season, says TAT

The Nation

CHIANG MAI: -- Chiang Mai province is expected to attract more than 2 million tourists during high season, which starts next week and ends in February, the director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Chiang Mai office said.

Wisoot Buachum said Chiang Mai would kick off the peak season period next week with the Yi Peng Festival, also known as Loy Krathong Festival.

"During a three-day Yi Peng Festival alone, between November 24 and 26, we expect tourists to contribute more than Bt750 million to the economy," he said.

Bt750 million in 3 days? That's approx. US$20 million - all that money and CM continues to look as shabby as it does? Something doesn't add up.

CM is one of the least tourist friendly places around. No public transit, little if any effort made to increase pedestrian safety, inadequate updated signage to name a few issues. The entire town should have been painted over last year. If 70% of CM's tourists are Thai, then it leaves me curious as to what % of that US$20 million is spent by them?

SO how many of these Visitors will want to use Immigration?

Doesn’t this say something to the Goverment
