BANGKOK: -- In a bid to ease traffic around Rattanakosin Island, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will build a carpark under Sanam Luang, the city governor's adviser Wanlop Suwandee revealed yesterday.

Also, as a short-term plan, tourist buses will only be allowed to |drop visitors off in front of the Fine Arts Department offices before parking at the Pinklao Bus Terminal, he said.

A mid-term plan would see the construction of a pier near the Pinklao Terminal and the launch of a shuttle bus service for tourists visiting the area.

The long-term plan is to build a carpark under Sanam Luang, while the Thai Transport Operators Association will also look for places for carparks on the Thon Buri side of the river.

BTS to Sanam Luang would do wonders and stamp out the corrupt taxi and tuk tuk. Think of how much money they will make on this line.

There are so many government agencies around that area, many are empty buildings or barely used, why not convert those into parking lots too.

An underground car park so close to the river?? Nah! Bad idea all round
