Working Visa

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

First time user here from Australia . I was directed onto this forum by a member of trip advisor so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

I'm planning to live in Koh Samui for roughly 6 months from June onwards next year. I want to rent a 3 bedroom house with 2 of my friends in or around Chaweng and we all want to find a job if possible. I've heard it can be difficult to land work so where's the best place to start?

In regards to a working visa, what do I need? It's touch and go atm whether my job will allow me to go or I will have to resign so not sure if that plays a part in the visa process or not. I've got plenty of savings also.

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is no "working visa".

If you are not already in Thailand you perhaps should research the options outlined in the link.

http://www.anyworkanywhere.com/whv_th.html

Otherwise you will need to........

1.Obtain job offer from a Thai Company/employer.

2. Have your employer apply for a Work Permit for you (it is not a visa)

3 Obtain, with paperwork supplied by the employer , a non imm "B" visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate outside Thailand.

Working legally requires you to have the "B" visa and the work permit.

Working legally requires you to have the "B" visa and the work permit.

Although it does not apply in this case the above statement is not true. You don't have to have a "B" visa to get a work permit. You can obtain one with a Non-O visa or and extension for marriage. Some offices will even give you one if you have a retirement extension, but very few. I have worked on both of the above and have never had a"B" visa.

True but the Australian "first timer" who wants to live with two friends is unlikely to be married to a Thai person, nor is he likely to be aged 50+ !

Your post is unhelpful to the OP .................

The general "there is no work visa" rule isn't completely true for Australians.

I don't know any details about this visa such as whether you still need to apply for a work permit in Thailand (sounds likely), and maybe the OP doesn't qualify anyway.

If you had read the first sentence of my post you would have seen that I said that it did not apply! It was just information and certainly did provide information because you can work legally without a "B" visa. Unlike your post which absolutely added none!!

This seems to be what I'm after. Only piece of the puzzle that is missing is the tertiary studies. Completed 1 year a while ago with another 2 years to be completed once March comes around next year so I may have to wait until then?
