"Several people hid in our dressing room and the killers were able to get in and killed every one of them, except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket."

NEW YORK: -- Eagles of Death Metal have given an emotional first interview since the fatal gig at the Bataclan in Paris, when gunmen stormed the venue, killing 89 people.

The band itself managed to escape unharmed. Days after the attack, frontman Jesse Hughes spoke to Vice.

“Several people hid in our dressing room and the killers were able to get in and killed every one of them, except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket.

“People were playing dead and they were so scared. A great reason why so many were killed is because so many people wouldn’t leave their friends. And, uh, so many people put themselves in front of people,” he said.

It was the deadliest of a coordinated series of attacks on the French capital on Friday November 13, which resulted in the deaths of 130 people.

At the time of writing, 90 people remain in intensive care following the attacks, for which ISIL militants have claimed responsibility.

France has vowed to “combat by all means possible this unprecedented threat.”
