Three cries of troll by idiots.*

Keith is my friend and the story is totally true.See you in PI soon buddy.

I don't doubt it's true.

My Thai girlfriend is from a wealthy family, they just bought her a 6 million baht condo and although she doesn't need to work she has a job and makes more than I do.

The bit I don't get is why he would go away on holiday without her.

I wouldn't even consider going out socially without my girl and neither would she think of going out without me, we are in a relationship and we do everything together.

So you met your bird, A.K.A., trophy, on a dating website.

Give her some space. Give her a chance to meet somebody with a bit of personality.

Wrong again. I was introduced to her by someone who thought we'd get along. I would never date someone off a dating site.

but I'm not taking you because.......

...Er because me & my mates will be dishing dollars out like candy to brass most of the night?

Classy.

Do you only have guy mates?

Don't you ever go out with a group of guys and their wives and girlfriends? No dinner parties in each other's houses?

Its better than pretending to be something that i am not!

Most of my mates are guys.

Dinner parties are for pretentious busy-bodies or wife swappingwhistling.gif

No you certainly are not pretending to be something you are not.

Neither am I for that matter.

Which public school did you go to? Perhaps we can find some common ground?

So this guy is a lazy, good-for-nothing leech who's also into ladyboys. His wife picked a real winner.

But the Pinoy ladyboys are all dogs compared to Thailand's cock-in-a-frock, no?

In a nut shell you are a looser You should be helping the family for their future

There may be circumstances not documented why he is not working?

However I would agree (call me old fashioned) that as the male in the relationship should be the main bread winner of the family.

Things are changing women are earning the money and the man is taking care of the house and family. However as pointed out by a few I don't expect my wife to suddenly take off for a few days break without me and the children (unless I want a break from her wink.png).

If your partner is the main bread winner then its her call as I presume she will be funding your trip?

I know a couple of men who are unable to get a job due to their trade and are living under their wife's sponsorship (in Qatar) who take care of family business.

No. She don't fund my trip.

...yeah right..

All married to rich ladies and are retired SAS/MI5/MI6/MI7/MI8 etc agents

How come I've never met ANY farangs like that in REAL LIFE?

You all seem to exist online

I'm not retired, not ex military or anything like that.

I am from a pretty wealthy family and was born overseas so I have been a lifelong expat living the high life in Hong Kong and for the past 7 years Bangkok.

My current GF is only the second girl I've dated since coming here in 2008.

The first one was ok but her family were poor and once I realised how poor I knew I could never marry her. I have no interest in marrying into a family lower on the social ladder than where I'm from

I spent the next 3 years not dating anyone as I was looking for a very specific type of girl - good family, good job, not poor, very attractive.

Eventually I met the perfect girl and I'm going to make damn sure I don't lose her by being unfaithful or not treating her like my princess.

I'm not one of those fat, working class types who come here from Farang land and bang dozens of poor farm girls while swilling cheap beer.

As for how come you've never met any Farangs like me, where do you hang out? I avoid places where the average age is over 60 and they have hookers hanging around.

I second you mate.. somehow the perception is TV is always that fat, retired, ex-military man with those poor/hooker pattaya girls...soi cowboy, nana plaza certainly not the hang out place

See there is the difference between you and I. I don't judge people until I've met them, I don't care what their background is so long as they are a decent person (which you may well be despite your groundless insults).

The problem with some people is they think everyone's experience in life is the same as theirs.

Sure not everyone lives the same life or has the same experiences but to insult someone or make out that their life is not what they say it is, just smacks of petty jealousy.

I can assure you if you met me you wouldn't think I was a pompous twunt as you so eloquently put it.

I'm a very personably, friendly chap.

'Lower on the social ladder than where I'm from' !

Condescending prick.

You will probably find that these people 'below you on the social ladder' as you call it, are actually far better people than you and all your stuck up family.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with them, just that I don't want to marry into a family who live in a tin shack in Isaan, have in-laws who don't speak at least some English and be expected to support them all.

Would you marry into a family of travellers (pikeys) in the UK? I presume that is where you are from and I seriously doubt you would.

The gap in the UK between upper middle class and middle class is negligible (in fact there really is no difference these days), whereas the gap between us and an Isaan farmer and his family is so vast that there really is no comparison.

I honestly don't understand how expat blokes think that they will be able to enjoy life marrying into a life so vastly different to the one they are used to.

It's not an issue of it the people are nice, decent people, its an issue of language, culture and compatibility.

Oh and thanks for the unfounded insults.

Condescending is not an insult, the other might be, but you chose to use the plural.

If someone meets a person and falls in love with them, why the need for background checks, to see if they fall into your acceptable status category?

I know a lot of people in life who have met, and married, people less fortunate than themselves, and they are still going very strong.

I do come from the UK, a working class area at that, and proud of it.

Everything I have done in life, I have done off my own steam, I am proud of that also.

The only people I ever look down on, are people who think, especially for financial reasons, that they are better the others, the classic being the self proclaimed 'hi-so Thais !

Damn forum software ate my reply because it won't accept deeply nested quotes!

Oh well... try again :-)

Thank you Keith.

Nothing really wrong with Nana and Cowboy from time to time, but some guys act like it's the only place worth going to, then they refuse to accept that some of us do meet and date real middle class Thai girls from good families without ever going on a dating site or barfining hookers.

It just shows how small minded some people are, or how much they limit themselves for whatever reason.

There is a whole load more to Bangkok than girly bars and the people that are attracted to them.

5 star hotel bars, business networking groups, trendy Thai bars and cafes.... lots of places.

And don't get me started on people who choose to throw baseless insults around without ever having met someone, that hardly signifies someone with an open mind does it.

Anyway, best of luck!

Yes I know of people that have done the same. I've also seen loads of blokes who've tried and failed spectacularly, because their Philippine in-laws or Thai in-laws just wanted their money.

I had a very close friend get murdered here in Thailand a few years back because the poor family he married into thought they'd get more money out of him if he died.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule.

Calling me a "Condescending prick." was an uncalled for insult. Especially as I gave very valid reasons why that type of arrangement isn't something I'd want to get into.

I don't look down on other people for any reason, but that doesn't mean I'd want to live the way some of them do.

I've been poor and I've been not poor and I'll take being not poor any day of the week.

And people who say they are working class and proud of it, far enough, but why the hostility towards people who have more money? have you ever met a Hi-So Thai?

You must know some people who are much better off than you in the UK, do you think they are bad people just because they made more money?

I really find the whole notion of disliking someone who has more money to be quite strange. I've never yet met anyone who didn't want to be better off, yet I've met lots of people who say about the rich "Oh they are stuck up" or "They think they are better than everyone else"

Let me clue you in.... they don't. They are no different to you or I, they just have more money.

It confuses me even more when I hear people idolising football players or TV soap stars who earn shitloads and live truly vulgar lifestyles, yet someone like me who made his money from hard work and wants to live a certain quality of life and I'm the one in the wrong......

I know a lot of people better off than me. Am I jealous ? No.

I will apologize for the insult, probably a bit strong.

The people I know who are wealthy, all seem to have one thing in common....... They never mention it !

And also, they do not put themselves in any 'social class' category, they are human beings, as we all are, and will mix and socialise with most people, regardless of the other peoples social or financial position.

  • 1 month later...

Will the response be any different if i'm the wifey instead?

My mind boggles that you would even consider going off on holiday with your mates and not take your wife.

If your wife is earning the money the very least you should be doing is supporting her by doing all the housework, all the grocery shopping and looking after your kid.

And your boy is 2 years old, I hope you are putting in maximum effort to get him speaking English (and your native tongue if you are not a native English speaker) otherwise unless you speak Thai you'll end up being unable to communicate with him.

No need to confuse the son with too many languages. How many people speak to each other in 2 or more tongues? They typically choose one and only one. In the case of mixed race or nationality couples, usually one language is spoken between them, and the children speak one language with their dad (usually the dad's native language) and another with their mom (which is typically the native language of the mom). So you should have said "I hope you are putting in maximum effort to get him speaking English (OR your native tongue if you are not a native English speaker)".

Personally I would bring up the child to speak your native non-English language (in case you don't come from an English speaking country) since without the efforts of the parent who speaks that language, it's all but impossible for the child to learn said language in Thailand later on from another source. Thai is the native language, while English operates as an unofficial second language in order to enable communication between Thais and foreigners (who are mostly assumed to be unable to speak Thai) and it seems to be quite straightforward for a child to learn English just by attending an international school. However, there are plenty of non-native English speakers in Thailand who prefer to speak English with their children and forego their native language (such as German, Swiss German, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, insert just about any other minor European language in here) since they don't view it as very relevant.
