Paint protection films for cars

Has anyone had paint protection films installed on vehicles here in Chiang Mai?

I'm looking to protect the rocker panels, fender panels, and bumpers from tar and gravel on some upcoming trips to Pai.

I saw white films on the lower sections of two different cars on the last trip.

I was wondering if these films are temporary and are easy to remove.

I would probably want to leave them in place for several months.

Anyone have any experience with these films? Any advice wild be appreciated.

Any recommendations on where to get this done?

Tar removes super easy with some WD-40 or similar.

Duct tape & wd40. good for most things!

Actually the tar was on pretty thick from the trip and it took a couple of hours to get it all off. Tried WD40 and then switched to tar remover which worked better but smelled a lot worse.

Id still go the duct tape way, if the tar still wont move with the WD40 then simply remove the duct tape. As long as you dont leave the tape on for months and months it should come off easily enough without leaving adhesive on the panels.

I did a trip down to Korat a few months ago and some of the roads were being 'upgraded' the tar and diesel plus other gunk was very thick on the lower body panels and the wheels also go a coating. I used the Thai equivalent of WD40 (Cant remember the name off hand) but its a penetrating oil. It worked a treat.

In the US I can buy 6 inch wide masking tape otherwise known as painter's tape. I would trust that more than duct tape on the car paint.

Almost all of the tar was below 6 inches from the bottom of the car so just one strip of tape around the car would do it.

And of course I'd need to slice it around the edges of the doors.

For all I know they make masking tape just for painting cars.

Too thin? Still might be easier than removing the tar.

Are you still interested in some protection from gravel as you stated in your OP or have you discarded that concern in a few minutes?

Perhaps you should order the 6" masking tape from the US, they will Fedex it to you in a couple of days, easier than removing the tar.
