China Says It Has Detained 2 Dissidents Sent Back by Thailand
By CHRIS BUCKLEY
The New York Times

BEIJING — The Chinese government confirmed that it has repatriated and detained two dissidents who were living in Thailand and had won United Nations recognition as refugees, a state-run newspaper reported on Thursday.

The Thai police handed the two Chinese men, Jiang Yefei and Dong Guanping, over to the Chinese police this month, although the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees had arranged for their resettlement to another country, human rights groups said last week.

Until Thursday, the Chinese government had been muted about the case, and the circumstances of the men were unclear. But Chinese public security officials told Procuratorial Daily, an official newspaper for legal affairs, that Mr. Jiang and Mr. Dong were in detention on illegal migration charges.

Thailand pays no mind to the Un refugee group or any other outside global organization

Mr. Dong, from Zhengzhou, a city in central China, went to Thailand in September. He had been jailed from 2001 to 2004 on charges of “inciting subversion of state power” and detained for several months beginning in 2014 for publicly commemorating people who were killed during the military crackdown on pro-democracy protests across China in 1989.

Sounds like the kind of charges for which people in Thailand are now being detained & locked up.

No wonder the Junta thought it reasonable to return these two "trouble-makers" ...

where can I puke? bah.gif

Will this be included in the " list of government achievements"?

I don't think Thailand will be receiving any accolades relating to human rights.

An appaling record this year which is getting worse.

The Chinese government confirmed that it has repatriated and detained =

Thrown in jail with probabe torture, mistreatment and execution in their future.

Thailand did not sign the UN convention on refugees. These two should have gone

to the UK or the USA where they would have been welcomed. The problem is

those countries probably would not even let them in. But the US is Chinas biggest

trading partner, and David Cameron just pimped out the British royal family

so human rights can't be that high on the agenda in those countries either.

I do know both countries talk big on human rights, but talk is cheap.

Interesting that while the Chinese police refer to both men as common crime suspects, the Chinese government said they were detained for illegal migration (out of China) and refers to them as dissidents.

The different terms are not inconsistent, however. Being a dissident in China seems to be a common crime as it is in Prayut's Thailand. Same-Same.

If these two men are still alive, and well, it is only due to the UN recognition, and the relatively high profile of this case. Most are instantly put to death, no doubt. The Chinese government is one of the two or three worst in the world. Absolutely, positively heinous on nearly all levels. The billionaire leaders have really, really bad intentions.

Blah blah blah, but but but its not Thailands fault...

And now Canada has said it is "deeply unhappy " over the deportation. The 2 concerned had been approved for resettlement in Canada prior to being sent back to China. According to the Reuters report that fact was well-known to Thai officials, completely contradicting Prayut's claim that Thailand didn't know. Piss poor act, Thailand
