BANGKOK: The new investigation into Rajabhakti park scandal will focus on individuals suspected to be involved in irregularities, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan disclosed on Friday.

He maintained that the park itself had been cleared of any corruption and the case should be over and he would not discuss this issue with the media any more.

The new probe which was ordered by Defence permanent secretary Gen Preecha Chan-ocha was headed by General Chaicharn Changmongkol, the defence deputy permanent secretary.

Separately, the deputy prime minister said that the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of the Auditor-General were also probing into the scandal.

The deputy prime minister clarified that the new probe would focus on individuals but the intention of the probe was not to seek punitive measures against any of them but, if any of them were faulted to have done something wrong, the matter would be referred to the NACC.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, meanwhile, hit back at the Pheu Thai party for demanding the government to be held accountable for the alleged corruption concerning the Rajabhakti park and that Deputy Defence Minister Udomdej Seetabutr should resign.

He insisted that the Rajabhakti park was a good project and it was a separate issue from alleged corruption which involved certain individuals.

He then asked whether the Pheu Thai party and the former government held accountable for the mismanagement of the rice pledging scheme.

"He then asked whether the Pheu Thai party and the former government held accountable for the mismanagement of the rice pledging scheme"

Even though not grammatically correct, I think we get the childish point.

it's obvious there's corruption involved here and there's corruption involved in every sector of Thailand. Cracking down on certain individuals and small fish is just a dog and pony show.

I hated the last government and these guys are no better.

If Prayut is hitting back so earnestly at an independent investigation into alleged corruption into the Rajabhakti park matter, there's got to be some substance to the charges.

Everytime Prayut vigorously defends his military against wrongdoing, it seems criminal charges materialize. Conducting his own investigations against his military and government will never be viewed as credible. So much for accountability under the Prayut regime.

This is just typical childish behaviour from the RTA......they are so accustomed to never having anyone question their authority, it throws them.............

Blaming the PTP for their questioning is stupid...there's obviously something rotten......and let's face it....the RTA have never been known for their integrity!

All care, and no responsibly!

May be OK for a street vendor, but hardly acceptable for a government (or even the junta, for that matter).

The ' probe ' will focus on individuals, well of course it will but in LoS there are individuals and there again there are INDIVIDUALS !

Defence permanent secretary Gen Preecha Chan-ocha

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha

I don't follow Thai circus antics very closely but this is the first time I have seen these two names in the same article - one maintained that the park itself had been cleared of any corruption, the other is ordering a new enquiry against individuals ... must make for interesting conversations around the dinner table
