Visa run for the 60 day METV

Featured Replies

My wife and I are on the triple entry tourist visa, the 60 + 30 extension x 3 one. Which as of reading today doesn't exist anymore as of Nov.13/2015.

We are under 60 and don't want to go the retirement visa yet. To get the 60 day METV Visa in the USA is easy no prob-blame-o. The main question I have is it possible for a US national to get this in a neighboring country of Thailand such as Vietnam. I've seen all sorts of varying answers on the site, we are heading to Burma in Jan. and wonder if it can be done there? OR is there a better country to try to get it at.

why are so many of you trying to shortcut the system here in Thailand, you would not even contemplate trying to cheat the system in USA or Australia.Just do the right thing here in Thailand and follow

  • In sihanoukville, i reccomend ana travel to be used to get thai visa.

Single Entry no problem in neighboring countries, but not the METV.

At this time there is no place within the region where you can get The METV.

The nearest place you might get one would be in Australia but that has not been confirmed yet.

Hi I am going to Cambodia on the 1st Dec to try to get a Thai single entry visa.

I am not sure i am doing things right so some advise would be helpful please.

I am flying to Siem reap and plan to travel to visit friends in Sihnoukville.

Was hoping to leave passport with an agent or someone to get me my visa while i am in Sihnoukville.

Is this possible? will i be able to fly to Sihnoukville on a copy of my passport?

When traveling on domestic flights in Cambodia, passengers are required to present one of below acceptable forms of photographic identification (all of which must be valid at the time of travel ):

• National Passport

• Motor vehicle Driver's License issued under the law of the Cambodia

• Parliament Card

• Military Identification Card

• Legal document from authorities to confirm that the passenger's Identification Card is lost or yet to be issued

• Airlines’ Identification Card

• Birth Certificate or equivalent.

So your plan is unfortunately NOT possible.

Ps: Why not find an agent in Sihanoukville ?

So single entry is a possible, what we are after is the 6 month duration. Single entry is OK if we can get 6 months. We have read the Thai announcement (via South Africa) and it states a vague reference that the new 6 month visa can be obtain at any world wide Thai embassy. But it did not state that has to be the country of origin of the travel. We still have a while left on our old visa's so we'll be watching this site.

Single entry is only good for 2 months but you can extend it any immigration office for another 30 days. So max you will get is approx 3 months.

For more info (and the requirements for a lot of countries) on the METV look at the pinned topic about it

Thank you for all your answers.

I think i will try Ana travel agent in Sihanoukville for visa.

Thank you Thaitero smile.png

Just found this dyn-o-mite link from another post on this site, this helps "lots" . RD

http://www.vintagevagabonds.net/thai-tourist-visa-in-kuala-lumpur/

From that link :

The Thai tourist visa situation changed on 12 November 2015, so all references on the internet to double and triple entry visas are now obsolete. The only tourist visas issued now are 1) a single-entry 60 day visa and 2) a new 6-month, multi-entry visa that allows a stay of up to 60 days at a time, and must be obtained in your country of residence. So when we needed to apply for a Thai tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur, we had no choice but the single-entry one.

Anna travel in SHV, ( am sure agents in sr can get one as well) just did one for my gf 2 weeks ago

$52 i did the slow route and it still was back in 4 days

they can do it faster but it costs a bit more

but confused,

u fly onto sr than fly to SHV and will get ur visa there so why wouldn't u ave ur passport with ya?

In my understanding he was looking for an Agent in SR to take his passport to Phnom Phen and he would then fly to SHV

I understand from the UK Thai Embassy site that to get an METV you must have a letter from your employer or education authority. Maybe they are pushing anybody over 50 and retired (cant get a letter from employer) into having to take the Retirement Visa option

Single entry is only good for 2 months but you can extend it any immigration office for another 30 days. So max you will get is approx 3 months.

Presumably you could also fly out of the country after 60 days and return for a further 30 days on Visa Exemption. I am not certain though !!

Correct, flying you will get 30 days, but if you do a (overland) Border run, it depends if your country is a member of the G7 then you will get 30 days, but if not then only 15 days.

Thanks for confirming it is something i will definitely consider, will avoid the hassle of getting the extension, give me a little trip and with bucket flights may not cost much more

The reqt for financial documentation ICW with the METV sounds like something most already-on-the-road travelers would find a bit of a challenge to produce, even if the METV were available elsewhere besides one's home country. Some are suggesting this is just a "kink" which will likely get worked out in the near term. Hope so.

Imagine the damage an unredacted bank statement could do if it somehow found its way into the wrong hands... 'Not to mention the risk involved in sitting down at an internet cafe somewhere, and logging into your bank account & downloading that stuff.

a 30 day extension would be more of a guarantee than a 30 day visa exempt.

The METV is only available to citizens or confirmed residents of the Country you apply.

If you want 6 months, your only option is to get the SETV then extend for 30 days = 90 days.

Then repeat again.

...We are under 60 and don't want to go the retirement visa yet...

You don't have to retire to get a Thai visa for the reason of retirement, but you must be at least 50 years old.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Your question would be a valid one for some of the threads in this forum. If you are referring to the posts in this thread, then I am confused. There are just people asking questions about the best way of complying with the rules in perfectly legitimate ways. Who do you think is trying to "cheat" the system here?

If the address in your broswer says "https" (usually accompanied by a "lock" symbol or similar), the connection is secured (encrypted) from your browser to the bank's server. Do verify the URL in your browser is indeed your bank's URL, not a fake site with a similar name. At that point, the primary danger of connecting in a coffee shop would be that a camera somewhere might video your keyboard while you are typing in your password, and or capture account-info on your screen. To counter that, you can do a "Snowden," and put a blanket over you and your laptop, but people may look at you funny.

I concur with the https add on with this post, an https session is created through a ssl digital certification issued by the hosting target web site. along with this is a public cert is information on the issuing that needs to be verified via a well known ssl service such as digcert etc. a 3rd party group. This prevents false hi-jacked wed sites from fooling you. Once the encryption is established it is near impossible to hack. Wonderful process based on prime numbers. I do believe the above is correct, I've been out of IT for 6 months and seem to be losing all the IT knowledge crap quickly ;-) The only remote chance for hack via a coffee shop network is a poorly configured laptop with an non-updated OS / browser, full of holes and remote access turned on, or,,, a good eye and a camera.

This is getting OT, but no, even with the use of a personal encrypted VPN the primary danger in an internet cafe here is a keylogger or some other malware on the PC capturing your data and either surreptitiously caching it for later retrieval or sending it off to a mothership somewhere. Using one of these PCs for sensitive data is a bet on the trustworthiness, competence, and diligence of the internet cafe operators. Please don't post security advice unless you know what you're talking about. Thx.

OP if you are assuming that after November 13 that you cannot finish an already issued 3 Entry Tourist Visa - issued before November 13 -- then you are wrong .

All Tourist Visas issued before November 13 and have not yet expired can be completed up until the Expiry date.

I do know, actually, but we were thinking of two different scenarios. I always use my own devices at cafes, wifi-points, etc. My apologies for my not being more specific, and thank you for clarifying this.

I Agree Entirely - Do NOT use a "public computer / device" of any sort to connect to your bank, or even your email account. Bring your own personal tablet, laptop, etc.

Can you please copy here any single Post where someone is trying to cheat the system. If you cannot then perhaps have the decency to accept that your insults are wrongly directed !!

This is something I have been wondering about with the requirement at Vientiane consulate to show proof of income for certain visas. What is the procedure? Do you just show your bank statements to the officer? Do you need photocopies to give to them? Just looking at my own bank statements, I would not want the information shown there to be available to anyone but me, I certainly would not want to leave a copy with the consulate. How does Vientiane consulate actually handle 'proof of income from abroad?'
